A friend in LA has claimed that:
1: The law applies to any exhaust, even OEM factory issue
2: There is not a decimal limit or any objective way to know if your exhaust is 'ok', since it is up to the discretion of the officer who is issuing the fine/citation/whatever.

I have not verified if what he told me is correct...

Sounds awesome. And I assume MPPSK in sport mode would be loud enough you might get pulled over for it.

It is not that loud.... It is louder than the average Toyota, sure... but not to the extent you can get stopped... unless you are targeted or you ask for it.

It could be loud enough if you're letting off pops and bangs by running in wot and then letting off the gas. It probably won't be in normal driving but it's up to the cop to decide that. I noticed a cop going slow at a dual lane on ramp when normally they launch hard so he could get behind me to hear my exhaust. I put it in comfort mode just in case though my cf tips stand out a little.

Newer software (at least in Europe) doesn't pop and bang
So the risk is minimized As I said - if you ask for it - you might get it either way, but it definitely isn't as loud as that typical annoying kid with his garage-tuned Honda... MPPSK just sounds like an expensive car

I'm in SoCal I brought mine from a dealer on the east coast but I don't know if they're the cheapest anymore. Actually got a local dealer to price match them so the earlier statement isn't accurate. But I would price check getbmwparts.com and bmwpartspros.com which are dealer sites that sell m performance parts at discount then ask your dealer to price match. Sometimes they have discount codes throughout the year. The two sites are also forum sponsors.

Is there a way to keep the valves open (burbles) all the time, regardless of driving mode?

It opens above 4K rpm in comfort mode. I put stick to the left so it revs higher in each gear and lets off a more aggressive tone when shifting gears. You may be able to do it with coding to keep it open at all times.

Thanks. I had an M Performance exhaust in my old 428i that I disconnected the valve controller so that the valves stayed open all the time. Can I do something similar with the MPPSK exhaust?

You might be able to unplug the signal wire while in sport to keep it open. There is some sort of y cable as there are two valves and one signal connector on the DME. It will be very loud at cold start however. It does tend to drone somewhat at lower rpm also.

Yup, the MPPSK will have one on each side.
I ran mine unplugged until I added a high flow cat. Now they're both plugged in again as the cold starts were too loud.

Thanks! Is the procedure still the same as the regular MPE? Start the car, drive it in Sport+ for a few minutes so that the valves would open, then turn off the car while still in Sport+ so the valves would stay open. Then disconnect the two valve connectors?

You can do it without having to drive around.
Its very noticeable with MPPSK when the valves open, even in idle.
Start the car, put it in sport, let it finish the cold start process, and the valves should open after 1-2 minutes.
From there just unplug them (You can also easily see if the valves are open or not)

Guys, do both of your valves always open simultaneously!??
My understanding was that they should, as they are not individually controlled.

Having checked (stationary) now, only the right one opens in Sport, the left remains closed!??
There is a precedent: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1562159

Can you please advise what yours does?

Pretty sure it's a simple 2-wire harness that gets split to two actuators. There's no capability to control them separately. They should both be open, or both be closed.. there's no other options if they're working properly.

That would have been my exact answer if asked up to 3 hours ago! That was my understanding as well. It is a 3-wires harness by the way, but all three wires are present at each valve.

Could you please check if reality aligns with theory on your car? I need empirical data
The car was neither completely cold, nor warm when tested. This may have been the reason to open only one, IF they are separately controllable.

If a cop is close enough to hear pops and bangs from WOT, then you're going to get pulled over for speeding or any other number of reasons, sound being the least of your concerns.

In fact I got a ticket for mashing the throttle next to a cop last summer (cop was in blind spot)
