F30 335i Battery Replacement

Does anyone know what the proper BMW replacement is for battery S: 61-21-7-641-038 is? When searching for that part is says discontinued everywhere. It's a 90AH/900CCA AGM battery..

I saw some posts saying that BMW replaced this with a 92AH battery, but I seem to get several different results when searching for that as well.

I assume with the 92AH battery I can just register it and not code it. I think the replacement is (61-21-2-353-812) but would like to be sure.. Also are there any highly rated alternatives that would not need to be coded but just registered?

You can always call the dealers parts and ask them to make sure.

Was just wondering if anyone already knew. For some reason my dealer's hold times are ridiculous to speak to someone.. I guess they have 1 or 2 people working during the pandemic.

I was able to finally speak to someone in service but they had no idea if I could only register the battery and not code for it.

If anyone cares, the part number for the replacement is correct.
They only provide a 2 year warranty on that battery too, so probably in my best interest to find an aftermarket battery with the same specs..

You never have to code a battery replacement, you only register it. There are quite a few very good replacement batteries. Google it. $200 is a fair price.

I was told that you have to code it if the battery is not of the same specs.

I'm looking at the Duracell Platinum AGM from Sam's Club..

You would code the battery capacity if it was way off from the original, but if it's an AGM of the same size that's not going to be the case. Bimmercode, for instance, has 80, 90 and 105Ah options. The difference between 90 and even 95Ah isn't enough to require a change. Now, if you go off the reservation and stick a lead acid or lithium battery or a different size AGM in there you'd absolutely have to code, probably in the DMX with INPA.

I believe you would have to code it if there's a change in the specs. It is in ISTA.

You register the 92 as it was a 90, job done.

Just open up your trunk and check. I almost make the same mistake with my F10. I thought F10 528i from Malaysia is using LN5 AGM DIN 95. But luckily the online seller mention it should be LN6 AGM DIN 105. Take a quick look in the trunk and it's LN6. I just use Carly to register the new battery and also found out my initial battery that lasted 7 years was never register. I wonder if for the last 7 years, I get several battery discharge error is due to the battery was not register to the car.

The initial battery from the factory shouldn't need to be registered, the car would know it was a new battery going into a new car. You have to register to tell an old car that it now has a new battery, so it doesn't keep charging it as if it's an old battery.

Due to covid illness I didn't start the car for approx 5 weeks, battery was playing up if left for long periods not starting car, I gave it a charge overnight using https://www.amazon.co.uk/CTEK-MXS-5-...ag=googhydr-21
all lights on charger indicating battery fully charged & ready to go so I disconnected all wires & put ignition on....battery warning still on! should I have took it for a drive so it can sort itself out? I started the car but battery warning come on after I switched off car. Battery is 7years old but what I don't get is why has the highly rated charger given me flying colours?

I have one of these in my console to be sure of the state of my battery. https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Charg..._t1_B000EVWDU0

If the battery reads within the normal range when parked for the night but is below the normal range the next morning it may need replacing. If after a night on the charger it still reads below the normal range it most likely needs replacing.
