How to make N55 355i sound like a 340i with MPPSK?

Every since I whipped around a 340i at a bmw event, I've wanted my n55 335i to sound like a 340i with MPPSK. What's the closest way to get to that sweet sweet growl, burble, and snap crackle and pop without any droning and a quiet mode when desired?

Catless downpipe, flash tune, dial in burbles so they are not too extreme. You will sound better than a MPPSK 340.

Afraid it would resort to a catless downpipe. Being in CA, that's going to be troublesome / the fumes right?

You're not trying hard enough. As "progressive" as CA is...make up a pronoun, slap it on and say your downpipe "identifies" with your car....problem solved.

You're welcome ..

Mount speakers outside of it and play the sounds of an 340i with MPPSK accelerating at full throttle every time you hit the gas.

I might be biased but I like the way my N55 sounds over the 340

Idk about that. Based on the videos i see theyre the same.

Maybe stock v stock the b58 is better?

Be cool to compare in person. Both sound great, better than the s55.

Yeah that's not the case. The B58 is a great engine and sounds amazing, but IMO an N55 FBO with MPE takes the cake

The engines are basically the same, other than the difference in waste gates, turbine and compressor being a tad larger, and how the charge air is cooled. Exhaust note isn't affected much by the wastegate being electronic, and definitely not by the water to air cooling. The difference in compressor and turbine will change the note minimally because the engine volume is still the same. It's more so the everything axleback.

The lci vehicles use a different exhaust muffler, and baffling. The MPPSK muffler on the 340s looks more like a Fabspeed/IPE muffler layout. In sport the exhaust gases completely circumvent the muffler, whereas the Pre-lci MPE only forces the gases out of 1 or both outlets by way of valving. In either case the pre-lci exhaust gases ALWAYS travel through the muffler and it's baffling.

If you want to sound like MPPSK then go straight pipe axleback. Or find a LCI MPE and swap it in. The inlet is at an slightly different angle but I believe any exhaust shop will be able to handle it.

Thanks for the informative post. Seems like swapping in a 340i MPE may get me close. Don't want to mess with the cat given CARB smog regulations. I would think there is a also a big difference in tuning with a 340i mppsk that would contribute to that exhaust note too right?

EDIT: Looks like the MPPSK exhaust is a full cat back system with silencer bypass valves...not just a backbox (MPE)

Here's what it sounds like in the new Supra:

So it acts like a muffler delete when the valves are open...

The reason B58 sounds deep is the extra 0.5" downpipe.

If you want to sound close to it go catless, delete resonator, MPE or other well made axleback.

I just got a catless DP for my car and it sounds the tits. VERY minimal drone. 0 drone when I turn my radio up to 25%

My DP is 4" btw so I think that's why its so close.
