UPDATE:

My CA just advised the open campaign is with the fuel tank. She literally has no other information. Wasn't sure if the technicians were checking it out or if service was being done.

Next update should be Friday. That will be 2 weeks from when it arrived into the VPC. Blehhh.

Interesting. I wonder if this applies to SA builds too? Mine finished in late Feb. Still no word on delays, but I probably won't know until Monday.

Wait - you finished in February and your build is still in SA?

My 340i is awaiting a vessel in Bimmer Heaven. I hope it's not affected by this recall/campaign. Fingers crossed.

Same here, was just informed my car is waiting for a ship in Bremerhaven. Mine was produced on the 5th I wonder if it would be part of this recall/campaign.

Wish I had more info for you guys, but I'm sure you can see how this is driving me crazy!

I was just advised my car has been assigned to a trucking company but hasn't been assigned a physical truck yet. Work order at the VPC is still pending and hasn't been completed. So maybe we are starting to see some progress with the whole truck update?

It's not still in SA. It's on the Crystal Ace, right now near New Jersey. Supposed to arrive in Baltimore (my port of arrival) on Saturday, so I'm guessing if my car does get held I might find out about that next week. I just spoke to BMWNA and there was no information or knowledge of this open campaign.

Just spoke with my CA and she told me the fuel tank is being replaced. She said it's a 340i specific issue. No one has any information about it though and I don't see any open recalls.

I'm so frustrated but I also understand that it could be a safety issue that needs to be fixed. I'm just not sure why no information has surfaced yet if it's affecting all 340i's.

So wait she said it's affecting all 340i's? Asking because I'm wondering if there's a difference between Munich vs Durban builds. I wonder where your CA is getting this info from because no one at BMWNA seems to have any clue.

I agree, I'm totally confused because she is the only person referencing a fuel tank issue. She said she is getting her info from the VPC in NJ.

I have a Munich build.

So strange. I checked with mine the other day and he said he's heard nothing about any issues with 340s. You've got me nervous though! My car gets to Baltimore tomorrow so I guess I'll find out soon enough.

How long after yours got to NJ did you find out it was being held?

The VPC work order started on my car on 3/25. It's been there ever since.

Assuming they really replaced the fuel tank, this is not a trivial repair. I highly recommend you dig into this deeper b4 taking delivery. Your dealer service department can get whatever info you request on the repair. I also recommend you ask that they inspect the work performed.

Speak with the shop foreman or service manager.

Thanks for the tips, I will definitely do that.

Yeah, I'm bummed about it. I explained all of my concerns to my CA and she literally just texted me back and said "I understand". It's taking the whole "new car feeling" out of the experience. This is my first BMW order.

There's not really a need for that. The techs at the VDC are top notch, they are selected from BMW STEP (already high end a lot of dealer techs aren't full STEP grads, because dealers must pay for their training when hiring)

This means they're trained by Factory BMW employee's for several months at one of a few locations around the country (Cali, S.C. are the main campus's) These guys know BMW's inside and out. When it's over instructors recommend whom they think is best for this critical position.

In addition they could be pulled out of the dealer network if they are outstanding. Completing STEP is required to be a tech there though. No time/margin for mistakes with brand new cars the owner hasn't even seen yet.

So you don't have anything to worry about OP in terms of work quality. So that's good at least.

That is something I thought to myself, but didn't know the details. I just figured people at the VDC were a night and day difference between your average tire mount/oil change guy.

I appreciate the input. It's definitely helping me feel better about it.

I wish you luck!

My CA just texted me and told me they are waiting for parts and won't have another update til Friday. This is like some sort of joke, right? Completely loosing faith in this car. The excitement is approaching zero at this point. My first BMW ever and this is how it's starting out.

That is so brutal. I bet they'll eventually make it up to you somehow.
