Carbon spoiler fitment
Hi all
I've just used 3m vhb 1.1mm thick tape to fit my cf spoiler and there appears to be a natural gap between the spoiler and the boot lid as a result of the tape. Can you guys see what you think? Is it normal or should I of used thinner tape (think they do a 0.6mm) Cheers |

Is that an OEM spoiler? Cause it doesn't look like one - the curvature/fitment of the spoiler itself is not correct to the trunklid.
No amount of tape is gonna hold that down My OEM MPerf spoiler fit perfectly to trunk even at pre fitment before exposing tape. I only used the 3/8" wide tape that was pre applied from the factory. Nice & tight with no visible gap You can also carefully use spring clamps with nylon jaws to hold the spoiler in place for a while, but they weren't needed in my install

I have an CF OEM, my gap is at the back from the curve of the spoiler...most likely installed too far out from the trunk? There's def some space where the tape is not making good contact. The spoiler seems very sturdy, logic tells me the air is coming from the front of the spoiler anyways so that area to me seems more important. Will keep it on for now and I'll fix one day if it annoys me enough. I don't want to keep taking it off and scratching the trunk. Already had to redo the first time. Any pics or your spoiler from the back curve?

I've fitted lots of non oem carbon fiber bits before with not perfect fitment. As long as your trunk was very clean when you laid that tape down and the carbon fiber was very clean as well you should have no issues. Apply normal pressure by hand and that's all you should need. The chances of it getting thrown off is like .001%

The spoilers normally have a hollow on the bottom. As long as you apply the tape only inside the hollow, it normally does not leave much of a gap.
If you apply the tape too close to the edge of the underside, it can create a gap. Here's a picture I lifted that shows the hollow: From this thread: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=301725 |

Carbon Fiber lip detaching from one of the sides
Hey, I have this same spoiler lip and on the very right side of the lip, it is coming lose. The rest of the lip is tightly sticking. I used scotch heavy duty (30lbs) adhesive and its still wiggling. Anyone else?
Also, has anyone tried going through a car war with one of these lips when they used the same adhesive as me? Just wondering because my car is filthy and I want to put it through a car wash, but I am scared of it falling off. Thank you. |

You should use VHB with the right prep work. Won't go anywhere. And no don't take it through a car wash.

If you prep the surfaces well and use the right adhesive you can absolutely take it through a car wash.
I used the adhesive than came with mine and while the car was new I hand washed it weekly... well life catches up and I take mine through a car wash weekly. Still have the spoiler, doesn't wiggle or anything. This adhesive is what they use to attach them at the factory... |

I also use scotch 30lb for mine and it has held up very well, you just have to prep the surface properly and if you're able to add heat or apply in the sunlight, you'd get much better adhesion.

Do you think I should take it off and put it back on with another stronger adhesive? I don't think it'll fall off by itself, but on the very right side of the lip, the corner tip is disconnected and ever so elevated from the trunk.
