I can’t wait for spring to come, so I can test AC also. The only difference that I saw in other parts beside IHKA ECU and CLIMATE CONTROLS, is that the compressor is without magnetic cluch on LCI, but because I have automatic transmission witch also has without cluch compressor, I hope that it will start also.

Thank you IK6SPEED for the German translation and for the descriptions for the sensors.
I can confirm that the dual zone system contains two sensors each for the ventilation and footwell i.e. for the driver's and passenger's sides. I took an ohm meter to the pins on the IHKA3 connector (white) designated for these temperature sensors. Larry

So if I am reading through all this correctly, to recap, steps are:
1) Install IHKA3 Controller Unit Known to work for mod: 64116820235 64119390099 64116842986 2) Install LCI Screen Display unit 3) move wire from pins on FEM A173*7B to pins on FEM A173*10B which is either not connected to any wires or connected to HU_NBT Professional with Navigation, if you have that option. Quote:
5) update car to latest istep level 6) Performed a "TAL-Calculating" and then a "TAL-Processing" to update the IHKA3 BTLD, SWFL and CAFD files. 7) Run Rheingold to clear all warnings and errors before starting your vehicle. 8) Start vehicle and run it until the A/C LED stops blinking. Did I miss any steps? Last edited by IK6SPEED; 03-24-2018 at 10:13 PM.. |

Each of the sensors measured between 25-27. I did not take a look at the units on my meter but based on my research, it would have to be kohms.

For my installation, please see my comments on some of the steps you presented: 1) I can confirm 64116842986 also works. When I initially installed this unit, I did not get heat. After installing 64119390099 and getting everything working, I reinstalled 64116842986 and to my surprise, it also worked. Regarding your question, 64119311850 is IHKA. Yes '850 is exchangeable retrospectively but take a look up the list you attached. Notice 64119356004 (04/14) is "nonexchangeable retrospectively" and the start manufacturing date is consistent when the IHKA3 replaced the IHKA So you would have to source '004 or newer controller. 3. My vehicle came with HU_NBT Nav Professional so A173*10B Pins 10& 11 were in use. I tapped into the K-CAN2 bus from the QuadLock Connector since it was easier for me to access. 4. I VO Coded IHKA3 using manufacturing dates 07/13 (closest to my 10/13 manufacturing date) and 07/14. I compared the two CAFD files and discovered no material differences between the two files. I then generated a CAFD file using 07/15 and compared the CAFD file with 07/13, there were material differences so I chose to use the 07/14 CAFD. 5) Flash the IHKA3 to the latest FW. Note, the BTLD, SWFL and CAFD files for both of the IHKA3 I tested needed to be updated. No need to FDL Code the IHKA3 CAFD file to determine if your retrofit is working. Just VO Code the IHKA3 ECU after flashing.

I am told the aux coolant pump is showing no reading in your ISTA pic is the newer 2016 F3x (as well as the 2015 F8x) models have a newer aux pump that supplies this info to IHKA3. Obviously, that has not been replaced on your vehicle. Of course as the 2015 F3x operates without it, it seems that is not needed for proper operation. Attached is ISTA from 2015 M4 which shows status. Sorry for the delay. Last edited by IK6SPEED; 03-24-2018 at 07:39 PM.. |

See the list I attached from RealOEM:
I do know what you mean by "add IHKA3 to VO". Just flash the IHKA3 to the latest version and then VO Code the IHKA3. Larry

Assuming from your post you are adding IHKA3 (or adding a 3 to IHKA) in the VO and saving. At least that is the way your post reads. That’s why I am asking for clarification. To double check. IHKA3 should not be available unless added to vehicle order. Just as you changed 6WA in VO to 6WB when you added the digital speed/tach. |

When I was debug my initial install, I stumbled across the same test in Rheingold. Since I did not have any heat at the time, the temperatures did not change so I could not confirm whether the IHKA3 was actually connected to and reporting the temp sensor readings. I will check tomorrow with my current install and report back. Larry

Transplant of LCI Display to Pre-LCI unit failed Of course that would have made it so much easier. *sigh* Past posts edited to reflect that path is not possible. |

After installing the IHKA3 , performed a "TAL-Calculating" and then a "TAL-Processing" to update the IHKA3 BTLD, SWFL and CAFD files. That is it. Your LCI HVAC and IHKA3 should be operational after starting your vehicle and running it until the A/C LED stops blinking. Forgot. one more step - Run Rheingold and clear all warnings and errors before starting your vehicle.

It is 11pm in Ottawa at the moment. Will check tomorrow AM. Update Mar 25th: This AM I ran Rheingold and measured the Ventilation and Footwell Sensor temperatures and captured screen shots with the vehicle cold and warmed up. Please refer to attached pdf file. I can confirm the IHKA3 does read the temperature sensors, as evidenced with the change in temperatures between cold and warmed up. It would appear the IHKA3 retrofit works properly.... Larry

A quick question - my pre-LCI car currently has basic single-zone climate control with IHKA. What happens if I replace the panel with a pre-LCI dual-zone one? Would it still work to some extent or do I need to make the full IHKA3 retrofit right away? Just wondering since someone has probably tested it already.

And if you depend on Dealer for any Service, the retrofit will cause major issues in future. Last edited by IK6SPEED; 04-08-2018 at 02:29 PM.. |
