F30 vs F32 vs F36?

hi guys

looking and going from my f32 to a f30 due to the need for rear door accessability.

i haven't driven an f30 so was hoping someone who's driven both can tell me what to expect going from a f32 to the f30.

does the f30 feel very different to my f32?

is a f36 a better compromise?

thanks

I'm new to BMWs so I'm not sure what the F32 is -- the coupe? And the F36, not sure what it is, a convertible? But I've driven a lot of cars, including a coupe and two sedans from BMW's Stuttgart rival. In my experience the sedans may be a bit heavier than a coupe, of course, but they are as well balanced and they get up and go the instant you want the power.

Think of the sedan as a stealth vehicle. It may look like a typical upper-middle-class grocery-getter . . . but it has a small starship engine under the hood.

F32/F36 will handle better than F30. So if you're into driving, I'd get a F36 of I were you.

+1

But I'm bias... I have a F36, i love the hatchback storage space...not quite a wagon but she look beautiful 😜

Anyway to OP, you said you have F32...the F36 is basically a F32 with extra door and that hatch space

I went from F30 xDrive to F32 xDrive about 6 months back, stiffer/sportier suspension, better handling. Body roll / floaty feeling was more pronounced on my F30, it's still present in F32 but way lesser. Didn't lower them or do any suspension mods. I believe some suspension mods would get rid of that in an F30. I'm planning on getting coil-overs in the next few months, just doing the springs alone doesn't end well in most of the cases, judging by the experience of a lot of members over here.

I've driven the f30 and f36 in various different levels of spec, as well as lci, and pre-lci. The f36 corners flatter, has a sportier driving position, and feels generally better to drive than the f30. I would strongly suggest test driving an f36 before making your decision. The f36 also has nearly perfect front to rear weight distribution, has the practicality of the hatch, and looks better than the f30 too. You see f30s everywhere, but the f36 isn't nearly as common. The only thing you give up with the f36 relative to the f30 is an inch or so of head room in the rear seat. To me it's negligible though.

OP, if you’re looking for rear door accessibility, the F30 is easier to enter and exit than the F36. We used to have an F30 and it sits taller than the F36. The latter is really a stretched coupe whereas the former is more of a sedan. Go to a dealership and try both models for yourself. Personally, I like the hatch design of the F36 for carrying larger loads, it looks nicer too IMO.

The F36 is definitely better looking than the F30, but I still love my car.

F36 every day and all day

Mine is a xDrive best choice I made

It's a sport car like an M4
It has 4 doors like a sedan
It has a hatchback trunk like a Subaru

Best multi use car ever bought. I had a choice between F36 and a Maserati - and gladly will pick f36 err day

Little bit on expensive part but won't regret it for sure

+1 for F36. I had a F30 as a loaner for a while, what a letdown.

Another vote for the F36. The F36 is a very unique vehicle in the sense that it is multifunctional. It is sportier and wider than an F30. The hatch gives you the ability to carry a lot of things e.g. I recently picked up 25 bags of mulch with the back seats down try that with an F30. Aesthetically it is a better looking car (of course I am bias because I have one). Just know that a F36 with xdrive doesn't get any special suspension even if it is an Msport version. I dropped mine and it made a world of a difference in handling. All the best with the selection.

I drove 2013 F30 335i sedan for a few years. Loved it. My 2017 F36 440 GC still reminds how sound my decision was 3 years ago.

Two more votes for F36: one from me, one more from my car.

F36 Hatchback opening is real useful. Many times I wish I had that on my f30. I love the m sport bumper on the f36 much more than the f30.

Otherwise, rear seating is annoying as I would always brush my hair on the ceiling.
F36 is much heavier compared to similarly equipped f30 and u feel it in the drive unless you just drive straight line highways all the time.

Suspension wise, if you have to get xdrive I recommend going aftermarket. XDrive anything on the f3x is junk. Otherwise msport rwd suspension is decent enough

2 positives and 2 negatives from me. See which sways you more.

Have you ever driven the f36? The added weight is about 100 lbs, due to the hatch style trunk, and it's all in the rear of the vehicle. This makes the weight distribution nearly a perfect 50:50. The f36 also has a lower center of gravity than the f30. Haven driven both, the f36 actually feels more nimble on twisty back roads, and much more grounded and settled on the highway.

My f36 has the adaptive dampers, but I've also driven an xdrive f36 with the base suspension, and while it felt too soft for my liking, it was worlds better on the f36, then when I've experienced it on an xdrive f30. The f36 was lci as well, so maybe it was better sorted, but it was acceptable, unlike the unsorted mess that was the pre-lci f30 xdrive suspension.
