Recommendations for quiet tires to reduce road noise
For those of us who feel the stock run flats are too loud (especially during highway driving), I thought it could be useful to get some solid recommendations on quiet tires to replace them with.
I want to keep a ranked list of tires that I'll update as users suggest new tires to be added and agree/disagree on their relative positions. The only criteria is that the tire offers at least as good performance as the stock ones. Current ranking (based on other threads, tirerack.com, and comments below):
Source for top 4 If anyone has had a good experience with quiet tires not on the list, please share them with us! Last edited by ashkanvafaee2; 12-19-2020 at 12:47 AM.. |

I have number 4 right now. They’re great. They’ve been discontinued and replaced by the AS4

In terms of noise, Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 and evo3 are possibly the highest rated UHP tires from reputable brand in recent years.
Pilot Super Sport certainly ain't a quiet tire. If you want Michelin, the Primacy 4 is very quiet. Surprisingly, the PS4 and PS4S are doing well, too (considering how sporty the tires are). Other quiet (and comfy) UHP tires worth looking at are Falken Azenis FK510, Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 and Vredestein Ultrac Vorti. |

The Pilot Super Sports have been replaced by the Pilot Sport 4S. Any place still selling the PSS's are probably just selling off old inventory.
While the PSS's and the PS4S are great tires, I would not say they are all that quiet. When I replaced my run flat Bridgestone S001's with the PS4S's I noticed they are quieter on some road surfaces and impact noise is WAY lower, but overall steady state tire nose isn't dramatically better. I ran the DWS 06's on a different car, and while they are a great tire I didn't find them too terribly quiet either and got considerably louder as they wore.

Recommendations for quiet tires to reduce road noise
That was my experience with the conti DWS tires too. They were great on my E46 as a tire. But didn't sound much different from my f30 with rfts.
That is why at least for me the rfts don't sound that bad. I can't speak of course for direct comparison with all the tires. The rfts get louder when they wear but so do all tires at least the ones we have used. For me I use the rfts because of trips with kids in the cars for soccer and other activities. We have 3 vehicles and on Louisiana and Texas highways I have not found much difference in sound with rfts vs non rfts when comparing the three vehicles which all have different tires. Anyway just my two cents worth based on my experience. As stated I go with rfts on the vehicles that don't have a spare. The van carries a spare so no need. My E46 had a full size spare so also no issue. |

Just put Ventus V12 Evo 2's on my F30, they are great. Keep you right on the ground and have tons of grip. Noise wise I would say they are pretty quiet. My only concern is tread life, I've seen they don't last nearly as long as some of the other performance tires out there, but a lot of that can depend on how you drive/push them.
Just took off my Firehawk Indy 500's, I know not on your list but those were great all around (performance, noise, grip) for the money. |

I've seen a lot of people run the DWS 06 on youtube (including that kies motorsports guy). They also seem to be relatively cheaper which is nice. Do you think they might be quieter than say the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S? I'm thinking of upgrading them on the list. |

Michelin's competitor is the A/S 3+ or the new Pilot Sport 4 All Season. Summer tires are going to be slightly louder than high performance all seasons across the board. |

I can confirm the Dunlop Sport Maxx (chart) are quiet, I had 20" fitted to my 640D GC. Hard to compare as the next tyre on the car was an all weather tyre - Bridgestone A005 - and all season are always quieter than summer.

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is the best tire that I have ever had on my cars. They are pretty quiet but more importantly to me, they do everything else very well. If you can run summer tires all year, they would be my pick.

I'm running the Lexani LX all season tires, they are really quiet in the road and have a ton of grip. This is my second pair of these tires and the only tires I seek out at this time.

I use general gmax as05 (non run flat)on my 428xi and they have been great, low road noise, good handling and the cost was very good. For winter I have perelli sotozero3 run flats and they howl like a wolf that just had its nuts run over lol but they rock in the upstate NY winters.
