Say if I floor it while stopped in traffic, can I expect to hit the car in front, not move at all, or move and have the brakes applied?
You can expect to hit the car in front. It’s designed to protect you from hitting someone at speed not replace your common sense

I should hope so. Would hate to have accelerator input vetoed when it's the safe thing to do.

My last car, a VW Golf GTD had it too, it sometimes braked, it even braked because a plastic bag was floating about in the road.

You can switch it off on the 3 series, I have a button below the lights buttons on the right of the steering wheel.
is it the middle button? i had it happen to be at a track this past weekend and im trying to figure out how to turn it off so it doesn't happen again

Yes accelerator overrides it. I've had the exact thing when going round a car or overtaking

Not sure about F30, but it's definitely active not passive on the G20.

I had it rather disconcertingly apply the brakes on me approaching a roundabout that was clear with the car ahead pulling away, and the car behind me nearly hit me.

I wasn't going particularly fast or close. Would have taken quite some explaining to BMW since it was their loan car not mine. I doubt they'd have believed me that their car caused the rear end collision because of over sensitive autobraking

The ACC system on my F30 has been spot on over the past few years I've had very few issues with it. It hasn't given me and false warnings, saved my arse a couple of times and just works well tbh.

Agree, I've got it on the 640 and it's worked really well, saved me on a roundabout in a classic "I'm pulling out.......no I'm not' situation. but never been intrusive when it's just warned me.

It's worth having in my view - some insurers (e.g. LV) give a hefty reduction if a car has autonomous braking. It was a £370 option on my 2018 F80 which I plan on keeping for 5-8 years and saves me around £120 a year in insurance - you can turn it off/reduce sensitivity if you want. Whether you have it will depend on the age of the car and options included such as ACC or Driving Assist, etc. it's been called a few things over the years and I assume it is standard by now on the latest models...
