It's been a while since i have done the usb map update, do you put the un-extracted file on the usb stick or do you extract it first, also does it matter if the stick is Fat32 or NTFS

Fat32 is the norm, but I believe some have used ntfs successfully. I stick with fat32 as I'm on a Mac.

Yep, its normally easy, but for some reason doesn't want to play this time, tried it with both extracted and not extracted, but still nothing. Maybe the battery is to low or something, try it again tomorrow and if necessary go for a drive.

How long do you get free map updates? 3 years, correct?

The 1st service is £335 - I have mine booked for 26 November but will supply my own oil to save £100.
My F31 340i is on 10,500 and is 21 months old. I won’t get 2 more services in within 5 years from 1st registration so even at the discounted price it is not cost effective to buy the service pack.

I've been checking the site for the last few days.
My map update and RTTI expired in March 2020. Last map was 2019-3 30% off Package Plus for me. Download Manager now processing the 2020-3 map which is the latest it offers for my car.

Yep.
Hour and a half. Not quite gigabit speed, but useable... Done now and on a memory stick, ready to install tomorrow.

General question on what of the connected drive services people find useful and regularly use?
Might get a package or an individual service and just wondering what will prove worth having. Thanks, Armaan |

Also seen the price is now £606, can't decide if it'll be worth getting, only done 3k miles since got the car in March, due to start a new job in January which is literally a 10 minute walk away.

I got it for £667 just in time for today's first service. Even if I only have one more it should save a couple of hundred, but I'll probably get the one after from it as well.

Service pack quote is £459.46 for 84 months / until 140,000km. Is that 84 months from now, or when the car is 84 months (7 years) old? I presume the latter, if the former its an absolute no brainer! Car was last serviced in August this year, so due to my low miles, the next one won't likely be until around summer 2022, then summer 2024, so would likely only get one service on the pack before the car is 7 years old. Maybe not worth it for me, although I see it does include a brake fluid change too.... |

Picked up the connected package plus for £70 which is not bad. Tempted by the CarPlay activation but as I have idrive 5 I don't think I get full screen CarPlay which seems crap for almost £200

Your usb stick needs to be empty. From the download manager, the map has to be downloaded to your computer, not the usb drive. Don't even plug the stick in until the download is complete. It should then ask where to extract the new map. Plug your usb drive in & select it. When it's finished it should ask if you want to delete the temporary file. I always do. Once the car is turned on, plug the stick in under the armrest. IDrive should automatically recognise the newer map & ask if you want to update. If you're doing all of this & it's not working then I'm stuck. No coding you've done should interfere with this process at all.

Full screen CarPlay is a hack anyway, no matter your iDrive version. AFAIK unless it's now an option on the very latest versions.
