I think what you experiencing here is called buyers remorse...
Don't go comparing with the 335 as its nothing like the 328i. coming from quite a modded 135 I felt the same way too but have come to accept it and acknowledge that's its not a 335/135 and as such power delivery is quite different. Found driving in sport mode in ds using the paddle shifters has helped bring some of that driving enjoyment back. |

Maybe call Andrew at SouthernBM and ask him about the delay. He may be able to shed some light on the subject.

Tested it yesterday and I saw the biggest difference when going ~80 and then putting the pedal to the floor takes about ~close to a sec before power delivery.
I wonder if buying an M would be a waste of money if you dont track it |

john: i am not sure how effective this is but you can try a tuner or a turbo timer to make the turbo spool from 1k RPM. That way when u get off the line, the turbo would be ready to go

Thanks Stephanite. I'm know a tune or anti lag system should help things out. But I'm just being a bitch about factory setting. Btw, 328 kind of feel like 335 taking off with 10 lt petrol in the tank. Haha. May be I should leave 10 lt in tank all the time until I get a tune... Rofl I was surprised by the N55 compression ratio @ 10.2:1 vs n20 @10.0:1... And bore stroke n55 84x90.1 vs n20 84x89.6. I wonder why those 2 engines can't have identical bore stroke and compression?

Yes, engine coding may assist with the lag. Would need to seek assistance from one of the indies though.

I'm not sure if this has been covered before, but have you driven a 4cyl turbo before?
Heard the exact same thing from R32 owners coming to Golf Rs. Me? I love a bit of lag. It's like the calm before the storm.

The lag on the N20 is almost imperceivable. The z4 has been doing fine with the engine for a while. You need to be in sport mode and the gear box in DS mode. If you are still experiencing lag then you car is faulty. Sounds like you may have a gear box issue. BTW the 335 comes standard with sport auto, its an option for 328.

We have fairly high spec cars in Australia, so the Sports auto with flappy paddles come standard in the 320i, 320d, 328i and 335i.

This is such a dumb thread. Buys turbo car then complains about lag.
I remember test driving a golf R before the 328 and I was literally driving around basically never even getting out of the lag zone. I parked it, thanked the guy and left. This thing is a dream comparing. What you are noticing in the 335 is displacement. I'm sure the turbo lag difference in 335 and 328 is not noticeable to people. |

I have noticed the lag you mentioned David, specially if you are trying to take off quick from dead stop e.g. Trying to jump into a gap on a roundabout. But once the car is moving and you push down to accelerate to overtake a car, then there seems to be no lag. The delay has worried me on occasions when traffic is heavy and you need to jump in fast.

Yes, good idea. Alternatively, use the flappy paddle to top down a gear or two without even taking your hands off the steering wheel. Immediate response there. Gotta put them to some practical use some time.
