Insurance woes!

Hi All,

Currently looking into getting my 340 tuning boxed up (Blue spark seem good and are rated by a mate of mine on his Civic.

Before i take the plunge i looked into how much the insurance price hike will be for this and a cat back exhaust... £1094!!!

I'm currently paying £500 now.

Anyone recommend a decent insurer that will cover mods at a decent price?

I tried BMW insurance but they will only cover approved BMW mods.

Thanks

I know this is likely not helpful, but Progressive in the states has good "customization" coverage that's affordable.

Barely affordable. I'm an older driver with a good record, and they still quote me at $157 a month for this car. Of course it is Lousy-ana. . . .

What's the point in getting an exhaust covered? Do you damage your exhaust often?

Some states charge more to insure the car if you modify it.

Why do they need to know? Who is going to tell them you modified your vehicle? Sorry we don't do that here in the States, but don't know what laws are in the UK.

Why are we telling insurance so that they can raise my premium? If I get in an accident the last thing I care about getting replaced is an aftermarket exhaust.

Also most of the time if the car becomes totaled you can go to the junkyard and uninstall your aftermarket stuff and reinstall the stock parts unless everything gets destroyed

Insurance companies have know to drop folks to admit to custom parts.

They offer you an option to declare them but I believe that's a trap.

Once you have receipts, they pay for aftermarkets parts anyway, so makes no sense to give them a reason to drop you.

That's rough. I'm $413 every 6 months. I get multi line (motorcycle) and multi car (wife's CTS) discounts, though...

Basically in the UK if you modify your car (and this includes exhaust change, remap etc) and don't tell the insurance, if you get in a crash and they see these changes it will invalidate the policy and you will be paid the square root of shit all!!

It's not about insuring the parts specifically.. in the UK even putting winter wheels on is now considered a mod that you need to declare.

I guess if I am in UK. I either get an M car and be done with it OR ride the public transportation ( I watch this guy RoyalJordan on YouTube on his bike... saw traffic and parking in London) look crazy.
