Hi guys, I’m new to the repair scene and I noticed this knocking noise on my 2015 435i and was wondering what you guys might think it is. Engine is cold and was just started in the video. Engine warning light is also on, I’m waiting on an obd scanner to arrive. 93,000 miles done on the engine. I appreciate any advice you guys have. Video link here or below

Unless it’s just not coming through in the video, sounds pretty normal to me. These engines are fairly noisy from the direct injection system.

from your video, sounds more like a "ticking" noise, seems normal to me. Sounds exactly from the engine bay of my stock 2012 F30 PWG N55. I would immediately get those codes scanned if you have CEL, that's the first order of business. I recommend you to find a download of ISTA, use your laptop to scan for BMW codes.

Do you still have the foam under your engine cover? That dampens a lot of the noise.
