F31 328xi Wagon 0-60 Times - Stock vs. Tuned
Some of you may know me from this post: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=954033 Where I took the wagon around a race track as fast as e46 M3s.
I decided to do some 0-60 runs using the BMW M Laptimer app which connects directly to the car's computer and GPS system making it very accurate. The car is fully loaded, including the massive panoramic sun roof. It's also still on it's stock runflat pieces of crap tires. Launch control was used with each run. 328xi Wagon Stock Unladen Weight: 3,780lbs. Stock run: 5.8 seconds BMW says it'll do it in 6 seconds so 5.8 is very good and right on par. Amazing for a little stock 2 liter. BMS Tune (Stage 1): 5.2 seconds BMS say their tune will push a regular 328 sedan to 60 in 4.9 seconds so 5.2 seconds in this massive thing is about on par with their estimated gains. The tune is fantastic and absolutely worth it, just don't put regular gas in the car. BMS Tune (Stage 2) with SuperSprint Downpipe: 4.8 seconds Believe it or not, I did this 4.8 run slightly up hill with groceries in the trunk, car seat in the back, a full tank of gas, and on these silly runflat tires. I firmly believe that if the car was on a flat road, wasn't full of junk, had a quarter tank of gas, and was on good tires, it would hit 60 in 4.6. If I used race gas and changed the map on the tune, 4.4 is within the realm of possibility. In any case, this is amazing. This is a giant 2 ton station wagon with a little 2 liter engine and it's one of the fastest cars on the road! I absolutely love it - it's a true sleeper. There are few cars that can beat it from the lights. My next mods will be track tires, track pads, a "Baby on Board" sticker and then it's back to the racetrack to see if anyone can keep up Disclaimer: My GPS must have been faulty because I certainly was not on the road it says I was on. I was most certainly on a closed course. So, uh.. don't speed without a high visibility jacket... yeah.

Love seeing this. I plan on getting Stage 1 for my Silver F31 M-Sport as well, that increase in power is enough for me. I'm waiting for break in though, as I am still only at 900 miles. Want to get a good feel for the stock car before I tune it so I can feel the difference. For the price, Stage 1 seems like a steal.
The F31 is a true sleeper, love that quality in a car. No need to scream power when you can whisper it while blowing by. Btw are you on staggered summers? I'm so pissed at myself for letting the summer staggered setup slip through my hands during custom order. I ended up with square A/S and basically just lost out on higher value and better performing summer 255's on the back, and could've just got winter rubber to switch out. Love the EBII. I was coming from a similar colored car and felt I needed a change. I like the glacial silver I got but love the EBII. |

Yes, awesome post! I put the staggered Bridgestone S001's back on after running Nokian WR G2's "Extreme AS" tire that were awfully slippery in the wet, and wow, I feel like I am driving on rails again.
Good to know the performance of the tunes - might be my next move too! |

Gotta love sleeper wagons... Depends on where you live. I have lots of family in Baltimore/Virginia area, and I see amazing cars there. They really just put my 335i to shame. The most common car I see when I go there is the 911, especially in the summer time. The 911 is the Civic of DC heh Plethora of M, AMG, Pcars, and other high performance cars there.

I run 245/40/18 square non run flats. it's not the end of the world to have non staggered. 245 is a wide enough in the back and looks really good as the front tire. drove out of the dealer with the run flats in bags to sell/trade with my tire retailer who was gracious enough to take them. It was winter so I delivered with winters on the car (again non run flats). Last edited by focal; 04-23-2014 at 08:22 PM.. |

So first off, why am I just hearing about this kick-ass free BMW app now? I thought this was some fancy $50 app or something, but then I find out it's free. Awesome.
I also love that you did the deltas. The real gains are always in the deltas vs. absolutes. A good rule of thumb is ~8HP for every tenth shaved off, so 40-50 HP for Stage I and an additional 30HP for downpipe and Stage II. Probably a little on the high side, but I would completely believe 60 HP over stock with DP and Stage II. Not bad. I am going to do some Stage I runs on the way home (closed track of course ) and will do stock in the next few weeks when I go in for 20K service. Will report back to see if I see a similar delta. If I knew my dealer would be cool with down pipe, I would be all over it, but I'm just not sure. Might have to go up to the dealer in Mountain View as I've heard they are a lot cooler and mod friendly. Keep up the great posts DarkStar Kind of makes me miss my WRX wagon and the whole sleeper thing. Jimbo |

Agreed not the end of the world. But looking back I would like to have gotten the wider rear wheels for free and then spent money on winters to fit this. I feel like I got stuck with a less valuable 225 rear with all seasons. Plus the wider rears look more aggressive. If I want to maximize performance now I would have to get summers and winters and save the A/S for lease turn in.
Again not the end of the world but it's a regret. Especially now that it's spring and I could be running the summers for the next 6 months |

I just went out for a few 0-60 times in my JB4 Stage I 328i. Not my finest work and bogged off the line both times, but I got a 5.7 on one and a 5.8 on the other. I am guessing 5.5 or slightly lower is doable with a decent launch.

Good to see my butt dyno is well calibrated. I have a RWD 328i m-sport and I knew from day one the engine was underrated at 245hp. Just the stage 1 tune makes the car an understated sleeper/device for trolling V8 drivers. We have 98RON fuel in Australia and BMS feels really fast.

SHAMELESS PLUG:
I'm selling the Supersprint downpipe that got me to 60 in 4.8seconds. Wife doesn't like the smell of the car with no cats on in the garage. Probably doesn't help that I rev the engine with a stupid I'm-11-and-just-got-my-first-kiss grin on my face. link: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1036105 Also fits on the F22 228!

Great post. The BMS piggyback is great. Essential mod. Should be the first thing you do to the car.

I only went there almost every month for about 2 years; recovering track day addict here. Shenny is a personal favorite. That gas station looks familiar too. Is that the one outside the road to summit?
