Is this winter wheel/tire swap OK/easy?
I just bought a 2015 435i xDrive convertible. When I bought the car, it had a new set of 225/45/18 (x4) Pirelli P7 run-flats on 400M wheels, which are fine for my needs around 8 months of the year. Suspension is stock, with no plans to change it.
However, I'm in Minneapolis, and I'm starting to look now for options for a winter combo, as this will be a year-round car for me. A member is currently selling a set of 397 wheels with Blizzaks that are staggered: 255/40/18 rears, and 225/45/18 fronts. Obviously the fronts are a direct swap, but I want to confirm that I can swap out those rears without any other modifications, parts, spacers, etc. I don't know that much about wheel fitment, but I have the equipment to change them out myself if it's a simple swap job. Thanks in advance for confirmation that this is an easy swap (or any guidance you can offer if not). Thanks, Jeff |

Should be an easy swap and no fitment issues assuming they are the stock spec wheels.
Ultimately, you would be better off using those staggered wheels as your summer set, and the square 400M set for winter. Since the set of wheels you are looking at already have winter tires, maybe next year or once your Blizzaks and/or the RFTs are spent you can put summers on the staggered set and winters on the square set. |

I thought about doing exactly that. However, since the Pirellis are brand new (just put on by the dealer before I bought the car), I really don't want to waste/trash/ or have to sell 2 of them (or all of them) to replace them with staggered summer tires. If the tires were well-worn, I could make the case for doing that. It's something I'll probably consider in the future if/when I have to replace the summer tires. More than likely, I'd probably look at getting a 19" summer set (possibly staggered), and then sell the 400M's with the tires as-is.

As long as they have the same TPMS, you should just be able to bolt them on, hit "reset TPMS" in iDrive, roll.

are you sure they are 397 and not 398s? those come in staggered fitment.

I'm not well-versed enough to know for sure. I'm just going off of the model number he mentioned in the actual listing. Although I did a Google search for both models, and the ones he posted definitely look like the results for 397s (not 398s).
