Changed my oil yesterday. Manual and underside of the hood both say 0W20 so that's what I put in and hopefully is the same thing the dealer had put in. My oil temp is reading 15-20 degrees higher than it did before. Is this normal?

What's normal? The oil weight shouldn't affect engine temperature, as it's thermostatically controlled. Driving conditions do. The car runs hotter on the highway than in town. Hotter is more efficient, but can cause knocking when accelerating, so the oil is cooler when the car anticipates acceleration rather than cruising.

normal is around 210 and after driving it today it sat at around 230 or so. I didn't really drive any differently than normal and drove the same place I always do.

230 is normal. 210 is on the low side.

And, you should see what the track does to oil temperature. When I was running Porsche Caymans, I would show about 195-200 in Sport Mode on the highway at 70+. On the track after 2-3 laps, I would show 235+ (of course I was doing a tad more than 70+. And that was an engine running 8+ quarts of oil.

Do you have cooling mods done? I usually run just under 250 on cruise control on highway. Comfort mode

I have the M Performance Electronic Steering Wheel and it shows an digital reading of 226 degrees. This is just normal driving in comfort mode. Now that summer is here it is showing a little higher at 228. If I'm driving in sport mode i am seeing 232 degrees. Funny thing is when I'm on Eco Pro it drops to 210, 215 and 220 degrees.

Ah, so glad someone cleared this up i was also worried that my temps putting around town was sitting at around 210 ish and then when i go blitzing on the freeway it goes to around 230 ish and no more...

wow, my temp has never reached that high ever, even under heavy acceleration pulls after pulls, weird. For me in town it never pass 194F ever, no matter how long I drive or stuck in traffic. On highway, i get up to 210F after 30 mins, but I have to floor it hard for a good 10 mins to get near 220F. And this is during summer nights too which is about 74F outside. Do you have the factory oil cooler ? You can see it behind the front bumper before the tires.

The normal operating range for the N55 is in the 235-250 range (should be closer to 250). If your car rarely gets over 200F then it can't even burn off water in the engine which boils at 212 F. That's not good and something is wrong with your oil cooling circuit. Possibly a bad thermostat (stuck open?). Synthetic oil can handle temperatures upwards of 300 F and is more efficient at 250 than at 200. Even conventional oil can handle running oil temperatures of 250F.

Temp gauges have been designed to have the needle pointing in the middle in normal operating conditions or one tick below.

Really, yes i still have factory parts except the Muffler and Res deleted, and the BM3 tune, and these temps are from the warmest we've had here in MD around Mid 80's..
