It might have been updated since when I entered my VIN of my '17 car in the link on the previous page it said my vehicle isn't involved in any programs (so the HPFP extension doesn't apply to me).

It will still be a CP4.1, otherwise then the control (DDE) would have to be different, or a special flash.
We can just hope Bosch got their hardware fixed.

That's an interesting fact.
Did some realoem checking. The superseded CP4.1 pump is still the same part number across LCI and non LCI though.

Here's some reading for those that want to look at this issue from outside the BMW word: http://www.dieseltechmag.com/2017/12...s-the-cp4-time Below is a photo of what is in one's fuel system when the HPFP grenades. Filippo

Happened to me two nights ago. 2015 328d with about 35k miles. Died on Ortega Hwy at night, leaving me stranded. Talked to my advisor today and he said fuel pump and $10k repair with all fuel lines replaced, etc., but that they were still confirming. Haven't discussed anything further yet.

They should be finished in a day or two with the repair. So far, advisor quoted that it's a 'big job' and about $13-14k. Covered under warranty and no hassle there, but I was hoping to keep this car long term and now I realize that I'm driving with this ticking time bomb. |

Did you get your vehicle back from the dealer?
Just curious what all they replaced? Seems a little steep that it would be a $13,000 bill. At dealer prices it's $1200 for the pump, $600 x 4 for all replacement injectors. That's $3600 plus labor... Not sure if the lines are crazy expensive? You would think they could flush those out. Or do they have to replace things back in the tank as well? |

Yea, curious too, especially since injectors were $80-$100 a piece a few months ago. Stocked up.
I should have looked at the HPFP price then too...

A couple of questions. Has everyone received the letter? I have not. Second, does this warranty apply to the entire fuel system replacement required with pump failure? Not very useful if they cover the $1200 pump and you're left with the other $10k in parts.

If I don't sell the car it sounds like this is pretty much going to be required maintenance at 120k. If I do replace it I'll have to post some internal pictures... definitely wondering if the internal cam would be worn at 120k if it hasn't failed yet or if it just implodes all at once when the roller turns sideways to the cam. That does seem to be the common failure point once it does go. I wish there was some info on what changed when BMW superceded the part number in 12/2016... I know my pump is original from 2013 when the car was built so it would be nice to know if they improved something in the design that would make me feel good about replacing it proactively. |

When the VW commom rail CP4 HPFP issues started coming up, VW blamed misfuelings with gasoline. I wonder if it was true, and how common the failure really was. Switching to VW will put you in the same fuel pump situation.
I am hoping that Bosch's mistake isn't quite as common. If the updated part number isn't affected, then that would be good news.

Bosch got back to me pretty quickly, I guess the 098 number is the manufacturer refurbed version of the pump. No difference between those part numbers.. no idea why BMW changed their part numbers in that case, unless they just started using rebuilt pump's. I guess I'll have to look under the hood and see what number is on my current pump if it has a bosch number

There was an aftermarket secondary fuel filter that was made for the cp4 VW. I forget the name but it was plumbed so that if the HPFP grenaded that filter would catch the filings instead of circulating it back through EVERYTHING.

Not sure if adding a filter to the return line would hurt anything with the restriction, but it certainly would be nice to save half the fuel system when the HPFP goes. If we had the CP4.2 style pump I would think it would be fairly easy to use one of the "disaster prevention kits" available for diesel trucks and modify it to connect to the BMW plumbing. I have not seen any kits for the CP4.1 pump though.

Thank you for sharing! Just to confirm, you got the letter (and 10 year) for your 2014 diesel?

Type your last 7 of VIN there to find out. This is the reimbursement website.
