Hummm interesting! I test drive a model 3 a month or so ago. Which I liked but overall it was too small. When I spoke to the sales person about the Y they were saying don’t expect to see them until the end of 22. Which at the time I thought was probably a sales patter to get me to order a 3. In the end I put a deposit on a Macan as I didn’t want to wait! Probably a good thing as I’m still not 100% sold on the look of the Y

Be interesting to see what the increase is for 7 seat layout.

I don't actually mind the shape of it that much. 315 mile range is realistically 250 max though I'd say.

I think for a lot of people that'd be the understatement of the year

Same. The lack of a hatch put me off the model 3, but LR version of this in red with the white interior looks pretty good to me.

Wow, that is horrible. If only they'd employ a designer or two, rather than outsourcing styling to the local Kindergarten.

And what is it with the current trend for making something as big and heavy as an SUV, then reducing the practicality by having a stupid sloping rear (and I know Tesla aren't alone in this)?

I said all along Performance in grey but now I am thinking long range in red.... but I will ponder a while.

I may go with the white interior for a change....

I'm also tempted. Model 3 never appealed due to the boot, but this resolves that, and the looks are fine. It doesn't offend me anyway.
But the combination of the interior packaging, performance, supercharger convenience, means it's the only BEV I'd consider for our needs.

I don't get the divisiveness of the looks. Completely understand some thinking it's a bit bland, but it's pretty inoffensive. Everyone seems to have a hard-on for the KIA EV6 thing just now, but I just find it fussy and over styled. Maybe we need something in the middle!

Yes, I've heard how incredibly practical the M3 is for its shape/size. It feels like this could be a very practical replacement for a normal large SUV. Only 4.75m long but with a much shorter bonnet.

The looks are so-so, i would rather it looked like an Ioniq 5 or EV6, but then there is a good reason why they pack less space (particularly boot/frunk) space.

I'm with you on inoffensive. I'd apply that to all Teslas and I'm surprised they attract so much criticism.

Then again, whatever I buy I will miss the looks of the Disco and glancing back at that front end as I walk away

My criteria for an EV would be that it can comfortably do 350 miles at motorway speeds and no-one's really there yet. That range is based on us being able to get from down south to up north without needing to recharge en route, which is a trip we make every couple of months.

I also fleetingly considered a Model 3 before I ordered my G21 and with the hatch the Model Y probably addresses one of my issues (which was practicality for the dogs and the like). However, although I'd need to see one in the metal, based on the pictures I'm not a fan of the looks and, more significantly, I really don't like Tesla's reliance on the touchscreen so for me they're out unless and until they change that.

I'm also thinking that if I had one on order for £55k - or closer to £60k if you want the red paint and white interior - how would I feel as delivery day approached; would I be excited or would it be more like anticipating the arrival of just another consumer good like a new dishwasher? For me I think it would be more the latter and I'd struggle to reconcile paying that sort of money to feel like that.

So for me the M340i will be around for a while yet; ETTO though!

I do get what you mean. We did Alton Towers and back (~600miles) on a single tank recently, and I filled up at the end in 10mins en route home. Admittedly we did stop for 45mins for lunch, so actually charging something like the Model Y wouldn't have been a hardship, but if you just want to not have to think about it, they're not quite there yet.

What I did think was poor though was that Alton Towers itself doesn't yet have any charging points, so if we had taken a run down in an EV that is something we would have probably had to think about. Just planning though I guess.

I like the looks, and more so than the 3. The price though was a little surprising. BMW maybe go £2k premium X3 over 3, this is about £6k more car for car I think.

It will be a homerun for them no doubt.

Tend to agree. The Tesla mentality seems to be to make it as aero/slippery as possible. I think their HGV truck launch said it had a lower Cd value than the Bugatti Chiron!! (That was the large HGV thing not the Cyber Truck).

I can see the overall approach doesn't sit well with most BMW owners but to me I quite like the front ends now, quite Porsche like even.

ETTO!

Looks like a Model 3 that has eaten too much McShit, I suspect it will appeal to some though..................
