Looks great OP, thank you for sharing. If I dislike the hexagon as much as I suspect I will, this will be on my short list.
yeah, the Hex is kind of crappy. I've lived with it for 3 months now and am just not a fan, quality just isnt there and this kit is on my short list...

I thought the CF shift nob and steering wheel stuff were a bit too much.

Here is mine with black interior (Dakota leather with red stitching). Simple, masculine and not over done IMO.

sorry for the big photos.. not sure how to resize them for the boards.

It drives me bat shit crazy that you get red contrast stitching throughout with red interior accent option but only get the two dash strips if you choose the blue option. Blue contrast on the seats door cards and steering wheel would break up my black interior nicely...

Yeah, but you get that beautiful blue exterior! I got the alpine white because it would have been 2 to 3 month wait to get another similarly equipped 335i in a different color.

yeah, I DO love the exterior, it's actually what made me pull the trigger in the end but i'm a fan of "details" and i think BMW missed out here...

Looks really nice... I have the Piano Black trim and I wonder if I can get JUST the idrive panel. It seems to be in the perfect place to get all scuffed and a CF replacement might be nice... maybe in Matte CF? Anyone think it would look weird to have only the idrive panel in CF?

Keep in mind, there is an angle to both the removal and install process, look at the tabs, they are angled.
Great guide, should help prevent people from breaking their tabs.

That's crazy.

It's about $700 at a few sources. Dealer has it in the books that it's under an hour to swap. That also allows you to sell your standard trim for $250-500.

The sales guy made it sound like it was just another option I could add to the car, so I bit (I hated the red stripe across the dash and was very impatient to get my new car). I should have waited and got that installed afterwards-- that's what I get for not doing the research

To be fair to the dealership, I had some issues with my first F30 so I was getting the car at cost plus a ton of other discounts. So I guess this was the sales guy way of salvaging some commission.

Their service and parts team have always been great.

Wanted to add that it's best if you don't use a metal tool like a flat head screw driver to remove the trim, as it may scratch the pieces and surrounding parts. Use a plastic trim removal tool like this instead, as they likely won't harm anything:

I just removed my trim today and will be getting my new trim this afternoon. I was a bit worried about removing the door handle pieces after reading about it here. It was actually super easy and it all of 5 minutes if that to do all 4 pieces.

I just inserted a small flat head screw driver into the notch at the bottom as far as it would go and with a bit of pressure pulled the screwdriver towards me allowing it to pop the majority of the bottom half of the clips. After that I just pulled along both sides of the trim at the same time towards me to the top and it popped right out. No broken clips and no hassle.

Really easy install! I used a screwdriver with a layer of scotch tape.

I have the brushed aluminum trim with a black strip below. The piece on the dashboard keeps making cracking noises when driven over uneven roads. The cause is probably due to the aluminum not sticking well to the plastic base. Cold air coming out from the air-conditioning vents on a hot day also causes it to crackle.

I wonder if anybody else has this issue and if there's a fix other than going the M Performance route?

I've actually been shocked at how much I don't hate the hex. To me it looks pretty good. Like I said this was a SHOCK to me...But last week I got to spend a lot of time in the pass seat, and It doesn't' offend me at all. I'll keep it until the wife decides she hates it (it's so much better than the "brush Alum." her Z4 had maybe that's why I don't hate it.). Of course my Elise has real Alum everywhere...so maybe I like silver crap in my interior? LOL who knows. I really like the CF, I'm not 100% sold on the Alcantra still, and for now will stick with stock.

EDIT: It appears to be available and the part number is the same.

The whole airvent and button etc unclips from the trim.

look at the top and the bottom, there are clips on the top and bottom. I just attacked the top with my pry tool and it clipped off. No wire removal required.

See below pic from first post. see those clips on the top. Just pop it off and the hole vent comes off. Just refit vent into new trim and there is no removal of wires required!

I managed to change all the trims in <15mins. its not as bad as it seems.
you can do it that way if you like but some people dont like leaving it attached to the wire and dangling, and refitting it with the wires attached could pull the wire and damage something. His way makes more sense since it is easier to unclip the vents off the wire than with it,avoiding any untowards scratches and damage.removing the wire only takes a few seconds then you can rest it all on the table with all the the other vents and swap.a lot easier than holding it with one hand and prying it out with the other while attached to the wire and at the same time making sure that you are not going to scratch anything.so in refitting, all you have to do is attached the wire in 3seconds perhaps then click click click.done

can anyone comment on how reversible the CF look is if I wrap it? I'll be leasing my F30 and would love to do this if it will peel off fairly easily after the 36 months...I doubt wrapping in alcantara will be easy to remove but maybe the 3M CF would be?
