Why don't more people own a 335i if it's as good as people say it is in this thread? Is it purely the fuel cost issue?
I would say a large part is the way the two fuels have been pushed over these decade or so. Let's be honest the general perception is now that only self indulgent rich arse holes like bankers drive big petrols, whereas sensible, caring Eco sensitive people drive diesels or Priuses or teeny tiny petrol engines in teeny tiny cars. I had an interesting time a few years ago when I was changing cars and went to several places looking for a 6 or larger cylinder petrol, everyone of them looked at me like I was either mad or the spawn of Jack the Ripper, insisting I must surely want a diesel.

Nope. It's one of the best mass produced cars I've driven in a while... But you need the adaptive option or change the springs to ac schnitzer. With standard suspension, it wallows and doesn't corner particularly flat. Of course it's no True M car and the torquey nature or the diesel means it's only usable with a 8 speed auto, the electric steering make the handling numb and eventually the 1.7t cause understeer on 18 winters with sport.

However on the twisties it gives me a big smile, and, on my current winter rubbers, it gracefully power slides in sport+ .. And of course out performs most so called sports cars even in f31 form - a real Q car.

If you are not too worried about the mpg/practicality, I would be sticking with the M135i. Both new 335i and 335d have the dreaded ASD so any sounds they produce while pleasing (especially on a diesel) are false. I don't like buying ps4 sound box in a petrol 6.

Actually both myself and one other member stripped back the boot and found our 335is didn't have the ASD module fitted... But that was another very long running forum saga

Seems to be more on the new cars? On a recent retrofit on mine, the guy was surprised to find the ASD and thought they only existed on true M cars... A quick shows it not just confined to 3 litres...

If you find it on Esys does that mean you've got it? I've not bothered switch to f80 s55 to check it works.

Possibly...mine was built 09/2013, I whipped off the cover over the H+K amp and no ASD in sight. Which I was actually quite relieved about because I did think from day 1 that if I had it they forgot to turn it up

I have been thinking about fitting an active sound system to my car.......just investigating whether I can get it to work seamlessly.

How much do you reckon it would be?

I guess you'd need to fit the M-DCT box too? And the M-diff of course!

It has too many miles on it, but......M3 engine

I have the DCT box for it in the garage already, diff wise I will just fit a quaife (Birds). I will need a custom prop shaft, but that is no biggie.

That's much better than my idea of changing my car to an M3 tourer look a likey!

Something to consider if my remapped engine blows up!

Yes, it is close to the perfect solution for me....I have done a fair bit of research on it.

Thankfully a lot of BMW stuff is interchangeable or carry over. For example the 335i has the same rear diff ratio as an e92 M3.....all falling into place.

Next thing is to check the legals.....if I'm right, I might have an s65 engined F30 with an annual VED of £125.
