You stalled while going uphill? Auto or manual?

I also have an update for you guys in regards to the belt squeak saga.

Monday morning I started the car and was greeted by this:

Would only happen after sitting for at least an hour. So similiar to the squeak, which after being left to sit, it would squeak once and not appear until another cold(ish) start. Mine gotten to the point it would squeak always in warm weather from 1-2 and to 2-3, sometimes even 3-4 upshift.

As I was scheduled to get my xDrive transfer case replaced, I showed them this. Today they called me that they are going to replace the belt tensioner.

I will post an update to this in the summer if the squeak comes back, but as someone else also mentioned that after replacing I believe an alternator (I was told the tensioner is next to the alternator) his squeak was gone. I would advise anyone with the squeak to get it resolved. It will eventually bite you in the back.

Glad to learn the root cause was determined.

Confirmed Coolant Leak

https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show...1434505&page=2

Posted already in the above thread regarding the low coolant warning issue, but overall aside from that the engine has been excellent. I'm at about 11,000 miles now.

x40i recall ongoing (at least in Germany). High revs in N can cause engine failure/ damage.
Software has to get an update.
Right now to early to tell if it's only 140(LCI) and 440 (LCI) or the others, too.
So far as I know nothing officially yet, just dealers calling their customers in.

Thoughts on the prob?

What difference does it make though revving it up in N and being in sport mode and redlining the car through the gears?

First official statement (please use google translate or whatever if interested)

"Im Rahmen der bei BMW laufend durchgeführten Qualitätsanalysen wurde festgestellt, dass in der Software des DME Steuergeräts (Motorsteuergerät) eine Funktion zum Schutz von Bauteilen nicht korrekt umgesetzt wurde. Diese Funktion soll Bauteile schützen, falls bei einem stehenden Fahrzeug der Motor zu lange mit hoher Drehzahl betrieben wird."

Translation:

"As part of the ongoing quality analysis carried out at BMW, it was found that a function for the protection of components in the software of the DME control unit (engine control unit) was not implemented correctly. This function is intended to protect components if the motor is operated at high speed for too long in a stationary vehicle"

Yep, because speed of the motor is measured in RPM.

This is probably the best place to post it: https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/
Do you change the oil change when its required through the dealer?

Don't push the engine too hard for too long until it's warmed up (I don't go past 2.5k for the first 5 minutes, then not past 5k for the next 5 mins, then it's free game after about 10 minutes or so of driving).

Change your oil, wait a bit, then send in another oil analysis. If it's the same thing then you may have a problem and not a one-off.

I never drive it hard when cold. Until operating temps i stay off the throttle. I don't feel any changes in engine performance. Still pulls very strong.

Pretty confident it just some stupid sensor since the Trans and Engine feel fine. I'll drop it off at BMW tomorrow and get an update.

You're out of warranty, correct? Why are you going to BMW for this? Why not swing by any reputable auto parts store and have them read the code for free, so you're at least properly informed, and then look for a reputable indy?
