Gaming pc
Hey guys
Looking at getting my son a gaming pc for Christmas. Don't need nothing high spec as he only plays roblox, minecraft and Fortnite. Can any one recommend any at a budget price? Thanks |

What sort of budget are you thinking?
Definitely best to build one yourself, then you can easily upgrade it when/if he gets into more power hungry games later. |

This would make a great lad & dad buy the components then build it up together. Not as daunting as it sounds & your lad would get a lot more from it all than just plugging in a box.

Best thing to know is the budget and what you'll need. Monitor/mouse/etc or just the box? |

This did cross my mind but I haven't played with a computer for a good few years now I wouldn't know what's compatible with what.
What's a good basic spec to start with ? |

www.scan.co.uk Great site and you can use the system checklist to ensure you get all the parts. For some ideas you can use this off one of the website I frequent. https://www.mmo-champion.com/content...d-of-the-Month The most basic build would run fortnite easily. |

Don't buy a generic PSU though, they can be very poor quality. |

I can 2nd the nomination for Cyber Power. I have no problem chucking in disks, RAM, new graphics cards etc but prefer to leave motherboard, cooling etc to people with better eyes, less shaky hands, and more time.
Anyway they have a decent website with a big range of builds, which you can tailor or not. Quality of my build was very good.

I may have something useful to use as a base for £50. I have what was a top spec tower used as a 4K media server. Just needs a graphics card and Windows installing. I'll dig out the spec as I'm using another one at home for streaming to the TV.

If you could get the spec mate that'll be great. I've just been flicking through awd-it trying to get together a build

Also I’d spend about £5 more on a decent make case. And 16gb ram is a bit ott for the games your son plays, even 8gb would be more than enough. And lastly, there’s no graphics card? |

thanks for that. just a couple of questions if there any reason to choose 2x4gb sticks rather than 1x8gb stick? and ive noticed on some motherboards it says gaming but on the one your list it doesn't say gaming is there a big difference between them?

And all I do with mine is edit GoPro footage and play movies on it Just needs a graphics card, HDD & a DVD drive if you need one. This is mine with a 64 Bit version of Windows installed.

Muffking’s pc would be a really good base for £50, that old i5 cpu has virtually identical performance to the Ryzen 2200g I suggested. It means you can cross off the motherboard, cpu, ram & psu from my list, saving you around £170! |

A Nvidia GTX 1660 https://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus...u-1800mhz-boos Or an AMD RX590 https://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-...r5-dp-hdmi-dvi The GTX is a bit more powerful than the 590, but the 590 is cheaper. Both would handle 1080p gaming fine. I second the CPU too, I have a 3570k and have used it for 7 years (OC'd to 4.2 Ghz though) and easily handles 1080p gaming. |
