M140 BMW Registration for sale
Of no interest to me, but I'm sure someone somewhere wants it. Think the auction starts Monday but can't see that starting price of £130 being anywhere close to what it'll eventually go for. Assume registration dealers will be in there like a shot.

These are DVLA Timed Auctions, the site is https://dvlatimedauction.co.uk/
You can browse without registering but if you want to bid you obviously have to set up an account. That M140 BMW plate is currently at £2,010 and I suspect it'll go a lot higher. I spotted a plate with 'ROB' in it which was £250 but it's now been bid up to £1,000. Makes interesting browsing. There's a plate 'AUD 108E' on the list and you just know it's going on a car with the spacing 'AUD1 08E'

Utterly bizarre. Somebody owns a BMW 140M and then spends thousands on a number plate that says (sort of) the same thing. I'm completely baffled why anyone would do such a thing.

However, in this case the number plate knows better than you what the car is, it is an M140, not a 140M. |

When you see a X5 Jon on a 'lowly' X1 X3 or and Audi A4 makes me LoL the guy can't stretch to that anymore. Why would you bother. Odd.

I love when i see a car displaying plates that cost 10X more then the car is worth.
I actually want to do that one day Makes financial sense too as desirable number plates only go up in value unlike most cars. |

as with all things in life its personal choice. A lot of people dont see the point in spending a fortune on a nice car, some like expensive holidays, its all personal choice.
My wife had one - it cost £250 and made her happy. Best £250 I ever spent. My daughter had one as an 18th birthday present - £250 - she likes it. My son had one as an 18th present (got to be fair) but he has never had a car. Probably a waste of £400 (inflation!) but as he shares a name with me its been on mine which helps senile me not have to remember a random collection of numbers and letters. You pays your money and makes your choice.... as does everyone! Now shall I put a number that starts M3 on an M5....?? |

I like short plates 4 characters or less anything else is a bit chavy like those plates that are 7 characters long and messed about with to try and say something, they always read "BELL END" to me.

I don't own a personal plate but I suppose there's an argument that in a lot of cases the car it's on is likely to depreciate far quicker than the plate
Oh and M140 BMW is up to £2,030 with about 6 days to go now. Reckon we should have a sweepstake on what the hammer price will be

If nothing else they are a good investment. I paid £280 for my first one many years ago and sold it for £1500. I then paid £280 for my current one and it’s probably worth £600 now. Not a fortune, but not losing money with it either.

As they don't make an M140 anymore I guess time isn't going to be kind to the value of this one.

Wearing M3 HOM as the plates. I think the same as you when seeing X5 on a X3 or F30 etc.

I agree on the short plates. Full fat range rovers look a lot better wearing 1/2 digit plus two/three letters plates. Same for discos even! IMHO.

One more post from me as I just remembered this.
My 440i was DG66 WBW. I chose it from a few double letter combos that the dealer picked out for me. To my tiny mind it meant WheelBarroW, so was almost personal to the car.

I don't mind ones that make me smile, but still wouldn't have one. Last one I saw that made me smile a tiny bit was RS6 1 FLY. Luckily it was at least on an RS6. |
