new year, new issue?! Rough idle on start up

HNY all.

Having sorted one minor issue, I think I may have stumbled across another...

The last couple of starts I've had a couple of rough grumbles - a little like a minor misfire or a fuel starvation. It's less than a second and seems to sort itself out pretty quickly.

I haven't changed the fuel filter in 20k miles. I changed all other filters and oil about 8k miles / 6months ago.

Im guessing I should change the fuel filter anyway, but is there anything else I should check for? no codes, no lights, no other warnings etc.

Any ideas greatly appreciated

335d about 88k miles

cheers

I think it is normal for a diesel engine to crank a second in colder conditions, all the fluids are thicker.. If it is anything else then I couldn't pick it up from your description.
20k is too soon for a fuel filter change

Sounds quite likely you could have a lazy Glow Plug or 2

it never rains...but it...

As lady luck would have it, my Jeep has developed a similar problem (but about 10x worse).

I checked battery at the posts under the bonnet (not directly) and with interior lights off, it was reading 12.24. (BMW this is, no the jeep) That's a tad on the low side for me. I wonder if the glowplugs are getting enough juice.

On the battery question - can I code in a new one with bimmercode or do i really need to get bimmerlink too?

Cheers lads.

You would need Bimmerlink to register a new battery
