I finished mine, reading the forum it looked scary but there isn't much to it.
Take your time and remember... there are 26 screws, there is one you can't see at the bottom left. (remember 26!!!) - Clean the gasket surface on the valve cover, degrease and then spray some tacky gasket spray at the back of the new one, it will hold in place in reassembly. - Torque the bolts in proper sequence. - Buy the vent tube (the one you will break trying to remove the 4 tabs or break when someone will help you push it out of the way) or make sure that your BMW dealer has it in stock. - Buy the valvetronic plug gasket. Cheap and easy to change. Watch a couple of videos on how to do it. Best time to do it with the OFHG because all the injectors will be disconnected for the priming procedure.

My VC just tapped out at 47k too. Think the gasket went long before. Fwiw, Tried using the liqui moly motor oil saver at an oil change around 45k but guess it didnt help much.
What other parts, if any should, should be changed out while in there? (Besides the PCV vent hose) |

You can change the plugs and coils if you want. You can also buy a brand new valve cover.
I did my plugs as the coils don't seem to have an issue on my car.

I wouldn't go 60k on plugs with a tuned car. I mean you probably could, but why? I changed mine at almost exactly the same mileage, around 45k IIRC, and the gap was already increased on the original plugs due to wear. New OEM were about 0.030'' going in and ones coming out were 0.035'' or so.
