Maint. contract worthwhile if only 7000 mi/year?

014 328 xdrive bought new, now at ~28,000 miles. Probably will keep 6 more years bringing it up to around 70k miles.

Brakes were replaced under warranty. The dealer offers a 2yr maintenance contract for $2,200. The dealer has a good reputation and so far I have been pleased by their service, professionalism etc.

Assuming a continued 7,000 miles per year (and easy suburban/highway miles at that), is the $2,200 for 2 years a good deal vs paying the dealer for each maintenance event? I have trouble adding up enough maintenance to reach an average of $1,100/year. Presumably the maintenance covers brakes, oil and other fluid changes, filters, inspections - anything else?

Yes, I know much less $$$ at independent guy, but let's ignore that for now.

Thanks

Not good idea, imo

You can expect to pay maybe $300 per year for whatever maintenance the car will need, which is mostly a yearly oil and filter change. You won't even need plugs before 60,000 miles. Not worth it.

If you drive 7000 per year, and the car has 28k, you might need brakes, and those are about $1000 per axle.

He said the brakes have been done already. An Indy should do full replacement including rotors for $500 per axle.

Final decision...

Took the general advice, which fortunately was consistent with my a priori thinking, and will not go with the extended maint. Thanks everyone.

Don't waste your money. If you drove three times that monthly amount then probably a good investment.

I would argue a pre-paid maintenance contract is not worth it, no matter how many miles you put on your car.

I would have to agree. If the goal is to save money I can't see a scenario where you'd even come close to breaking even at 1100 a year. I just did my front brakes and spark plugs for 350~ bucks. OP wouldn't have either of those services before that contract expires, most likely. I understand some people don't feel like doing it themselves for lack of time or maybe confidence, but DIYing just a few items can save piles of money and frankly is not very hard.

In either case, OP made a good decision.
