Pure has the better reputation of the two.

How much hp do you get out of it? I believe you need a back end tune to go higher.

I like the BigBoost setup better but haven't heard great things about their kit or their customer service. I've never been a fan of hybrid turbos. It's better to get a proper big turbo kit.

Pure stage 1 with meth hit like 470-480rwhp so with a proper back end flash for the jb4 or flash tune like BM3 with custom tuning options the car should easily be 530-550whp. I'm just guesstimating though.

I think ray340i is the only person I’ve seen
on this forum that has the bigboost stage 3. Maybe check out his setup. Bigboost is the same company that released the TBI right?

I say go with pure stage 2. You can maybe even have it put out less horsepower (safe/low mapping - similar power to Pure stage 1) and still enjoy the car.

You’ll have the car setup for more power when flash tunes get better.

I do have the big boost kit. Great kit thus far at 16-17psi pulls way harder up too than my stock turbo. The sound is amazing great spoil up.

Just like the pure stage 2 needs more fuel and a bef to get the full potential.

I do not have any experience with Big Boost but we sold 100s of Pure kits without any issues

No company is better than the customer service they provide.

My Pure Stage 2 died after 35000km last month.

Am I disappointed that my gen 1 Stage 2 did not last longer - a bit, sure. Surprised? Not really. That turbo has seen abuse like few with way more WOT and 100% WGDC than highway miles.

The positive take away from that is, that Pure instantly offered me 50% discount on a new last gen Stage 2 with more potential and improved reliability. Overall happy Pure customer and since my car is finally "finished" I expect the new turbo to last the life of the car

I don't think so, but their latest version has somewhat larger turbine and compressor wheels.

How did the Pure Stage 2 fail just lose a seal or did spinning and non spinning parts collide ?

... Compressor side is ok and it does not leak oil.

Did you run it without an intake filter or something?

I've destroyed two PS2s. The last one lost a portion of the turbine blade like Niels's. The first one failed catastrophically. The compressor turned into shrapnel and I had to pull the entire exhaust off to dump the turbine wheel out of the muffler.

That said, their customer service has been pretty good. The first one was replaced free of charge, although with no new warranty. The second one was rebuilt at a significant discount with their current, largest ever, turbine and compressor wheels and includes a new one year warranty.

Even then, they just didn't prove reliable running them into the low 20 psi range at DA around 8,000 feet. I just need a bigger turbo, so I'm going with Big Boost. My freshly rebuilt, never run, biggest ever PS2 is for sale here: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1665317
