Just wanted to share my quote from ProtectMyCar.com

Hey guys.

I was a bit bored and scrolling through Facebook, and saw an ad for ProtectMyCar.com for mechanical breakdown warranty. I was intrigued and looked them up online and found pretty good ratings overall. So I contacted them via phone to see what the rates were.

For my 2015 328i with 62k miles, I was quoted $83 down, $83/month for 4 year 48k mile coverage. So basically, it would have cost $4067 for 4 years of coverage. This was for their "select" package. Go to the link and scroll down for the chart. https://protectmycar.com/extended-warranty

I had the dude read me what's covered in engine and brake system it seems like most components are covered, including some common problems with N20 like timing chain/guides and all gaskets and seals.

Apparently they also have a rewards program that gives like 50~100/mo to spend at certain stores, but I'm sure that's like just coupons or something because otherwise they'd be losing money selling 83 a month plan and giving 50~100 a month in rewards for certain stores like Michael Kors or Northface.

I had fun talking to the guy as he was desperately trying to tell me these policies sell themselves and trying to really make me buy the warranty for an hour and a half (I was bored... And I was playing game while talking to him at one point because he kept droning on XD).

I was surprised that they had good reviews and such, but who knows if that's actually real. Just thought I'd share their pricing.

What they dont mention is that the parts may be covered if they break or fail individually or for a specific reason, otherwise they will not be covered.

Classic example, I bought extended warranty when I purchased a 2011 countryman S all4 6 years ago, within a few months I noticed one of the rear CV joint boots had split and the joint was about to fail, so I diligently called and requested information on where to take it, information on how to file a claim etc... only to be told that the CV boot itself is not covered, and since the CV joint itself will fail because the boot broke, it would not be covered, the CV joint would need to grenade itself in a perfect boot in ideal conditions for it to be covered, i laughed and cancelled the remainder of the extended warranty.

The other thing to consider that most of these aftermarket warranty companies don’t mention (they do in the small print, but know hardly anyone ever reads it) is that they “may”(read will) use aftermarket parts to perform repairs. You end up paying $4k for the warranty, and you end up with pep boys quality parts in return when you have repairs performed.

That depends on where you take the car for repairs. Any stand up BMW specialist will refuse to install sub premium parts, as they are on the hook to warranty the part and labor.
