First Batch Completed
Ok guys, was able to test fit one of the clips I printed today, and I must say it fits really well. Like a dumbass, I forgot to take a picture of one while installed underneath the headliner, but it looks identical to how it does in this threads first post.
The color of the Nylon 12 material that I used to print these clips comes out white. The material is extremely porus, so one can paint it all pretty looking easily with whatever color you choose. Its also pretty flexible at the V section as intended, which made it very easy to install. Lastly, I tested the tensile strength of this build to be just over 40 MPa, so there is no worry about it not being able to hold your rear camera steady. See attached pictures. |

To make my life easy, I'll be shipping these to anyone in the continental US via a USPS flat rate padded envelope. Think its like $8 or something (I'll confirm tmw). I'll eat the cost of material, all I ask is for the shipping to be paid for. However, if you're feeling generous and want to donate more to help offset my material and/or whiskey costs I won't say no
First batch I made 15 clips. First 15 who PM me their address and then consequently pays me via PayPal gets one. I'll also accept communication via text (will respond quicker this way). Number is 419-303-0179. |

It would be cheaper, and faster, if someone over there can do the same tho. |

Well I printed one for testing with PLA+ and it came out better than expected. I can buzz off a few more for those in the UK but due to the shape the postage will be more than the plastic

I need to stick my camera on my mount and go for a drive to check for wobble but once I've checked I can print a few off. I'm only using PLA+ rather than anything fancy but mine fits well.
Just waiting on a delivery from Amazon before I can put my engine bay back together then I can go for a spin |

I have the Nextbase 522GW in my 335d and routed it through the headliner then attached it to the window (still able to open the window separate of the boot) Can’t really see it through the factory tinted window and don’t notice it when driving as the drop is similar to the OP’s. Quality through the window is very decent too (see short video)

Hey folks. I got a couple of the 3d printed mounts from OSUClevage. Very well made, and fits well. Perhaps increasing the radius of curvature on the 180 degree bend would make it for a tiny bit better without pinching the headline as much, but it might also result in a looser overall fit and more movement. I'm splitting hairs here though—it's a quality piece!
To paint it I kept it simple and just used some flat black rust-oleum spray. A few coats left it looking quite nice. Just be careful to keep the coats relatively thin to avoid it pooling or running. See attached picture. Then when it came to wiring/mounting the cameras (Blackvue DR750x) I ran the cable for the rear camera to the back, did a test fit, and started scratching my head about running the cable to the tailgate. I can't leave good enough alone, so I gave it a go. Turns out the right side rubber boot containing tailgate wires can easily be pried out on both ends (tailgate open for one end, rear glass open for other end. Then I used a long zip tie to pull the cable through—a little tight but doable. From there running the cable through the tailgate sheet metal sandwich to a hole was trickier than expected. I ended up going down the right side of the tailgate to a hole that was easier to access. Then there was plenty of cable then to run under the tailgate plastic trim to the top center where I attached the camera directly to the plastic trim. Pretty happy with the end result other than perhaps needing to shave down the plastic trim a tiny bit where the cable pops out. I'll decide on that later. I wasn't great about documenting the process but will attach a few pictures. So now I have two rear mounts that I'm not using—one unpainted and one flat black. OSUClevage if you want them back I'll ship them at no cost. Otherwise I'm happy to ship them to anyone else in continental US for free. (Send any money to OSUClevage for his efforts in design and manufacturing!)

I should add, it's debatable whether this method is worth all the extra effort. Increases field of view on the camera a bit, but it also means the camera is more likely to get bumped when loading/unloading through the rear glass.

Hi, sorry to drag up an old post but do you have any pics of how you got the wire from the headliner through to the glass lid.. I’ve bought the camera and I’m struggling to see how to get it through.. |
