eLSD vs LSD? Should i get a mechanical diff?

So i religiously drive with DSC off as i prefer the weight of the steering wheel, linear throttle map and of course more control over the car without the DSC interveining all the time.

I understand how the eLSD operates and understand the benefits of a proper mechanical differential. But i’m a bit confused how my car would operate if i was to upgrade.

It seems that the eLSD and diff would work against each other, with the diff trying to transfer the torque and the eLSD trying to brake the faster spinning wheel. Once a mech diff is fitted is there a way to disable the eLSD completely? Meaning a more predictable car?

What type of diff is fitted as standard in certain cars? Is it torque bias? Clutch? And if so is it 1, 1.5 or 2 way? Maybe an aftermarket diff is the best way to go?

The OEM F30 LSD is clutch type, I suspect 2 way but not sure. I have it on my car and there is no inteference btw eLSD and the diff, since the diff won't let one wheel spin fast(er) enough to trigger eLSD. In daily driving you won't know it's there, but you'll feel the difference in acceleration esp in the bends. Lots of aftermarket options too.

Is the LSD in an F30 compatible with all engine and gearbox variants? I have a 330D automatic would i have to get one specific to my VIN or will anyone out of an F30 do?

Check realoem for fitment, under retrofits. You car has to be rwd. The gear ratio stays the same as the open diff, so 3.23 for manuals and 2.81 (I think) for automatics.
Edit: realized these numbers are for B58 cars, know nothing about other engines applications or even if LSDs are available for them...
