Agree, it is more a piece of mind thing for stock engines. If you mod the engine for higher output, imho changing the CP is a must. ER rocks it!

Curious - it's just a pipe. Why are you guys spending $$$$ on a tube?
Here's a metal one off ebay... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Aluminum-Ai...4AAOSweD5Zrwv8 |

Blew charge pipe right off!
Re-installed my intake and JB4 after getting some maintenance done. Normally I reduce the boost in 1st and 2nd gear, but I had recently got a new laptop and couldn't get the COM ports to link up. This is the reason I normally reduced it. Had been driving around town and highway without any problem. Then decided to take it for a spirited drive. As soon as I got on in 2nd shifting up to 3rd BOOM!
Load bang and a huge loss in power with a deep throated groan to the engine afterward and airflow CEL. Ordered an ER charge pipe. Kies Motorsports Youtube channel has some awesome install videos for many mods. Check to see if your O-ring and C clamp are gone before you order. Mine were missing so needed to replace. Any way, it was eventually going to fail. So if you're increasing boost, I'd recommend it. |

First was the small coolant return line from the upper coolant hose to the expansion tank. I was trying to replace the serpentine belt and you have to move the coolant return line out of the way... well the 90 degree plastic fitting pretty much sheared off - and coolant spewed out. That left my car stranded at the Auto Skills Center for a bit less than a week. I ordered the part from getbmwparts.com and it was available for pickup the next day - a clue that this item may be prone to failure after age/time/heat. It was a $25 hose. Not worth the time and money to have the car towed to the dealership when it's a $50 deductible under the extended warranty when it only took 3 minutes to replace the part and another 15 minutes to run the coolant bleed procedure. The second failure was the PCV hose that goes into the intake. The plastic locking mechanism failed. You can get around this by duct taping it for now since the clamping force of that locking mechanism isn't high. However, since that end of the hose was brittle, it would be reasonable to expect the other end that locks into the charge pipe would be brittle as well. I decided to just spend the $75 to replace the entire house and the locks at each end. |

My stock chargepipe finally broke after pushing 20psi on my '12 335i. I just bought a new burger motorsports chargepipe for 320. I have the vrsf cateless downpipe, JB4 map 5, and E85 mix. I was going to buy the vrsf chargepipe but its plastic. So instead I Went with the burger motorsports charge pipe which is stainless steel. Any thoughts?

https://x-ph.com/evolution-racewerks...rge-pipes-n55/ I'll save the warranty replacement factory charge pipe on my car for when my GF's F25 X3 35i's charge pipe blows up. It's the same part number. |

blown up charge pipe n55 cant find o ring
Hey everybody,im a noob, just bought a used f30. i had my 335xi charge pipe blow up on me the other day,and i cant find o-ring.... should i be worried about it potentially sucked up throttle body? ive prepped the car for installing new cp,dropped the engine tray, got old cp and intercooler out,and still cant find o ring. any one have the o ring go up the throttle body? from all the pictures ive seen online of this common problem, they all look pretty much the same as mine, far as where they fail. hoping that im worring for nothing.

I didn’t find mine either, but also wasn’t going to tear the car apart looking for it. Haven’t had any problems. You can feel around in there with your fingers, but aside from that what are you expecting to do?

Charge Pipe failure
m235i with 25,000 miles. Charge pipe blew on the way back from the beach, 97 degrees outside, 3 hour drive, in traffic the entire ride.
Dinan Sport Tuner had been on the car. Dealership referred car to BMW NA engineer, who looked at computer data without even seeing the broken part, and flagged the car resulting in BMW NA refusing to repair car under warranty because of Dinan chip. Dinan refusing to pay for BMW part because of part being prone to failure. Any suggestions? |

You want an aftermarket charge pipe anyway. Stock cp is trash.
