LED turn signal problems
Yes, alas another front headlight related LED thread.
I replaced my turn signals and DRL's with LED's the other day. Coded off the cold and warm checks and changed bulb to LED. DRL's work fine, turn signals work fine until about 2 minutes into the car running. One will then flicker for about 4 seconds and then the headlights will turn off (if they are on) and the turn signals will stop working (until i turn the lights all the way off and back on). I've coded out the cold and warm checks for both the indicators and the side markers, but im still having this issue. I did use kind of cheapo amazon LED's so could they just be the wrong ballast or load? Any ideas? |

I had a similar problem with one LED type in the front turn signal position. I went with these and the problem went away:

Forgot to mention these are the FRONT turn signals. So they operate as the turn signals only when the headlights are OFF. And they operater as the turn signal AND side markers when the headlights are ON.
One option would be for me to disable the sidemarkers. I'm not willing to possibly fail a state inspection or however unlikely get pulled over. |

Final post to wrap up this thread, I am converting all of my lights to LED (minus the low/high which I will change later when the new DEPO LCI comes out). I may make another post with all the lights I have used and found success with.
I first bought a pair of OXILAM PY21W amber front turn signals from amazon. These were cheap crap and would work but after 3-4 minutes would flicker and cause a lighting system failure and my lowbeams to shut down, not good. I then purchased another pair of LED PY21W bulbs from uniquestyleracings. These worked great and solved my issues. Yes I did code with both and I code all of my changes from incandescent to LED as you should as well. In short I would recommend buying from companies that know what they're talking about NOT from amazon unless you want to have to go through some trial and error. I now have LED DRL, fog, and turn signals. I WOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMEND YOU CHANGE LOW BEAMS TO LED. I found some that worked, fit, and gave no errors but the terrible halogen reflector housings give too much glare and it is simply NOT worth the risk of causing an accident. |

I got all my bulbs from Amazon, all work fine. The LEDs in my low beams don't cause any glare. If anything they're better than halogen, because being so much brighter I'm able to lower the aim. You do have to do your research as to what works and what doesn't, and that means the actual experience of others. You can't trust advertising one bit. I haven't come across an ad or company yet that tell you that you must code to use LEDs in a BMW, and that because of that there's no such thing as plug and play.

This is my LED thread. As it states LEDs are constantly changing, but chances are you can still find at least one source that still sells the bulbs I used. I didn't use adapters. I did use high temperature RTV to secure the headlight bulbs, because with their weight the clips alone won't hold them tight. http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1377259
