Has anyone tried this combo? I really like the sound of the Akrapovic cat back system, but not sure if I want to spend $3200 for it. $720 for Akrapovic link pipe and around $1000 for mpe, is almost 50% cheaper.

Subbed to know as well.

EDIT

Just got confirmation that the Link pipes are designed specifically for Akrapovic.

It looks like the 2 parts would pair up fine as long as each piece is just the right length and diameter. The mpe clamp might even be able to clamp it together. Now I just have to find out if I can buy the akrapovic mid pipe by itself.

Did you get to try this in the end?

No I haven't tried it yet. I'm pretty sure it would work, if not it would probably be a matter of small adjustment to make it fit. I just thought it would be cool to have another exhaust option for the f30.

Hey Trippleh78,

I'm in SoCal and I have the Akrapovic system. I had the M Performance exhaust prior. I took a couple of pics when I had my Akra installed, but nothing that will definitively prove they will fit. From the pics, it looks like it should work.

Only thing is, my Akra system is only about 20% louder than my MPE. If you're looking for more sound, I think a custom midpipe might make a bigger difference and be cheaper. But I must say, I think Akra implemented the single-double-single midpipe design to cut out any drone as it's 100% drone free. No doubt, MPE mated to the Akra midpipe would be a sweet setup.

I'm in SoCal as well so if you want to check it out, we can meet up. Hope the pics help!

Thanks for the reply Presario. The 2 mufflers look similar as far as where the mid pipe to muffler mate up. I'm really thinking it will work, will probably be just a matter of purchasing the akra midpipe separately. Man that akra sure does look good! Maybe I'll hit you up some day when we have some free time to hear your exhaust in person.

Sounds good bud! Let me know! Maybe you can come out to our next SoCal F3X meet. Looking to do an Angeles Crest Drive in a couple of Sundays. Let me know if you're down!

I have installed Remus midpipe between 200cpi DP and MPE on my M135i.

Remus has similar twin tube design as Akra but cheaper.

Fitted no problem.

i suggest you leave your resonator alone and get a downpipe.

will sound great, give you better performance gains then an upgraded exhaust system, retain the mufflers backpressure for low-rpm driving and cost nowhere near as ridiculous. its a win/win all around.

So did it actually work? Because if so, I will definitely go this route with my car as well!

I can confirm this works! I successfully mounted the Akrapovic link pipe to the stock muffler (non-MPE) so it should work with the MPE one as well.

I found a good, used Akrapovic link pipe for cheap at at scrapyard so I had to source the mounting hardware, which was a pain until I discovered the mounting bracket which goes on the rear axle is actually an old OEM E90 part (p/n 18207571002 for the bracket, 18207590154 for the rubber hanger). The nut is just a regular M12x1,5.

For joining the link pipe to the muffler I used an 80mm band clamp (https://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/...Id=32854205972) which was a bit problematic since the stock pipe diameter is 80mm (3.15") and the Akrapovic has a 83mm (3.25") diameter. I managed to use the band clamp anyway since the metal was rather soft and I could squeeze it onto the Akrapovic pipe. I used aluminium tape on the stock muffler pipe in order increase its outer diameter to match the outer diameter of the Akrapovic pipe. Together with some universal exhaust sealant, I could get the muffler and pipe to join properly, no leaks.

The sound is only marginally louder inside the cabin, but outside you can definetely hear a difference. The pops and crackles are more pronounced as well as the engine and turbo spool. All in all I would say this is a cost effective way to get a more exciting sound out of the engine without affecting everyday driveability. It should also increase the flow rate of the exhaust a bit because of the slight increase in pipe diameter as well as getting rid of the pinched section around the flex pipe (stock system) which looks a bit restrictive.

Let me know if you would like me to post some pictures and video clips

These research and development projects make great reading material. It will be an exhausting wait before Akrapovic offers an exhaust for a Tesla.

Why not just...delete the resonator?

Thanks dude! I will stay like this for a while. Can't say I haven't been peeking at a Remus muffler though...

Well, since I could do this myself, it was actually cheaper this way (since I live in Sweden). Plus, the dual tube design is better against drone compared to a res-delete on a single pipe

I did a resonator delete, I love my drone actually, to each his own. I used sleeve clamps to replace the resonator with a straight pipe so that if I didn't like it I could put my resonator back in but the resonator is banished for good!

Hi, PLEASE post some clips and pictures. Looking at doing this on my M240i and the fact that yours worked just gave me hope!
