Question Do you think kick-down should activate in Manual mode?

Do you think the car should put you in the lowest gear possible for your speed when the accelerator passes a certain point, even in manual mode? Attempting poll...

No

The whole point of manual mode is that I want to be able to decide what gear the car's in, and when to change. If I don't want that - I stick it back in auto...

Is that a Sportline shifter? I kinda like it better than the M Sport.

Also, dude... you may a rant thread already. Maybe move along to a different brand that suits your needs?

Exactly.

Could also learn to just, you know, shift since you are in MANUAL MODE.

Like this blows my mind, it's literally an automatic. If you don't want to have to make decisions DON'T PUT IT IN MANUAL MODE.

You can even override the gear with the paddles FROM AUTO MODE and it will take your input before taking over again after 30 seconds or so.

Maybe OP should think of manual mode as "hard mode" and not use that while they want the electric nanny to help them "go fast".

Yes, but only if you hit downshift. In the F80, the accelerator has a "notch" at the bottom of travel to tell you that you are to the floor. This is used for launch control and kickdown. If you are to the floor and down shift, it will go in the lowest gear possible so you can hit the sweet spot. So if I'm in 4th and I floor it and hit the downshift, it might go all the way to 2nd.

Honestly, this is only good on the street. Not much use on a track.

That's the base shifter. Looks nice, but to me doesn't feel nearly as good as the M-Sport shifter. Much too light.

Agree. I don't own an auto, but have driven many with a manual mode and I find it really frustrating when the transmission doesn't stay in the gear I selected, regardless of RPM or throttle position.

I just found his comment and picture to be a good natured joke and thought it was funny. As an owner of a manual car, the same thought crossed my mind when I read the subject line even though I knew where the OP meant.

I was saying that to the thread OP, not to 3A53. I know he was joking; mine's MT as well.
