Swap m340 for Tesla model 3 performance??
WBAC are offering just over the pcp balance at 18 months old
Not sure if I can sell to them without first settling the pcp, or they can settle for me, but that’s another thread I’m only really considering as it will be a significant saving TEsla is on company car list BIK is 1%, then 2% next year I believe So 40% on £600? No fuel, no road tax, no insurance, no maintenance Downside, no petrol engine, no idrive, I will have to figure out how to keep my NCB if I take a company car Will cost an eo £80 a month, so 1200 a year roughly 100 a month M340 is car allowance Pcp 620 Tax 40 Fuel probably 180 Insurance 45 Maintenance 10k pa so 1/2 service, 1/2 set tyres pa say £60 a month Brakes - I darent ask Less allowance after tax Say 600 a month cost to own (9k in 18 months for 10k miles) So a saving of 500 a month if I sell it and get the Tesla I love the m340, the blue black interior, wanted a petrol for years, the changes in sport plus, the burbling, pops when braking etc But £500 a month I hate touch screen, not particularly in love with the shape, but it’s quick, awd and saves cash. I know I should swap, it’s too much of a saving not to, but should i, I’ve yet to drive one, going to try one in the fleet What to do..

Personally, having been a passenger in one, it did absolutely nothing for me. Rattly and poorly put together.
The old F31 had a couple of creaks at 7 years / 90k+ miles, but nothing like the Tesla at 6 months and 4k miles. If it was a company car then I might view it differently, but I run my own car without any special benefits, and I want to actually like where I am for 2 hours a day |

@Grant_7 moved from a F31 340i to a Model 3 (LR not performance?) and seems very happy with the Tesla on the driving front.

Take the Tesla for 3 or 4 years. Save the 24k over 4 years, and go back to a nice car next time when the co car goes back.
There are a few on here made the swap and not too much negative press.... |

My regular commute is so short now, it’s not relevant, my trips of 2 hrs plus are non existent really now. My expectations are it won’t be a patch on the m340, no noise, no gearbox drama, no hud I expect. It’s going to be a less luxury option that’s for sure I can’t believe I am thinking of getting rid after yearning for so long for one tbh, and liking it so much, but a Tesla wasn’t an option 18 months ago

That’s not a bad shout. It’s that or mortgage overpayments. I think half at least off the mortgage.

yep take the Tesla - no brainer when the company is paying.
Then buy an ICE car for the weekend or even trackdays. These days this is where I'm getting most of my motoring enjoyment. |

It’s not on the list..
I could ask, would be entry level though given prices, taycans start at 60k? Versus model 3 performance being 60k the batteries are probably an upgrade with Porsche..

I would enjoy not having any hassles of owning your own car and get the Tesla then plough every penny into the mortgage for 4 years.
When you are 50 you will be really glad that you did. |

Anyway I'd do it overall for sure, 500 quid in your pocket and a nice new car. It's not going to be as nice as the beemer but that instant torque should keep you occupied for a while! |

(If your HUD comment was about tesla, I think it was. Everything is on the central screen in the 3).

I had a model 3P last year for a few months before i rejected it… build quality wasnt same level as a bmw - but was ok - similar to the wifes old 16 plate qashqai.
The controls take some getting used to - everything is on the screen, even hvac and speedo… but its ok - did miss the hud and proper steering wheel controls though. In the end it was the electrical gremlins which they couldnt fix, was a hassle to get fixed as they take the car away with no idea when it will be back - then covid hit and i just rejected it. But in you instance if its really about money saving then surely its cheaper to keep the allowance and get a cheap DD (i.e not a £650pm pcp ) You dont need to worry so much about NCD as most companies include company car ownership too. |

The financial case for something like a Tesla is quite strong if, like the OP, you're a company car driver and they're on your list; similarly, they make sense if you're able to charge at home and rarely do more than 200 miles in a day. I fall into the latter category and did consider a Model 3 before I ordered my G21; however, the lack of a hatch put me off plus I didn't like the touchscreen arrangement either. In addition, there were reports about indifferent reliability, poor paint finish, etc, so for me there was just too much in the negative column to contemplate spending circa £50k on one.
When the G21 goes I daresay its replacement will probably be an EV but by then I'm hoping the choice will have become a bit more appealing... |

The Model 3 Long Range is around £17 a month in BiK this year and £34 next and the year after
I've just gone through a similar exercise and am awaiting the arrival of mine. I've given up around £300 per month net car allowance and I reckon I'll still be at least £150 a month better off |

"Starship Cockpit", MashinBenzin I'd get that trade marked PDQ, definitely sounds like something EM would name!

I swapped my 2016 F11 530 for a Model 3 LR in Dec, and would not go back to ICE now.
Kept the 530 as the family workhorse / wife's car, and still drive it from time to time, but prefer the Tesla in every respect. Seats are comfier than the F11 (so way better than the F30 I had before!), acceleration better than anything short of supercar, & handling betters the F30. Do account for charging (unless you can do it at work) - £10-15 pcm if on an EV tariff such as Octopus Go for c12k miles pa - and a proper charger (£500 with grant). Charge fees at stations can be excessive, although Tesla's Superchargers are generally the cheapest (24-30p/kWh) and also the most reliable. I'm self-employed so the savings are well worth it. The fuel saving alone over the 530 was good enough reason to switch (£1800 pa in last full year before Covid, projection for same mileage in Tesla will be £140 pa if all charging done at home, closer to £200 if I have to charge while out once/week) |

It must be great to be so rich that you can pee £500 up the wall over some grudge against EVs and Tesla. Dont get me wrong, with my own money I'll keep my RS4, but if work offered me a Tesla model 3 LR or P on a co car BIK scheme, I'd be in there like a shot, the accountant in me wouldnt allow me not to! I did ask even though we dont give company cars, suggested they should start as it was free money for staff and help with retention....
