Bought by a VW main dealer they came and collected it today. Now I have a big deposit to put towards my next car.
And that is.....? ah, can see it in your bio thing now.

I assume the Golf was fairly low mileage and 2 ish years old? perfect forecourt stock apparently, the cars dealers cant get enough of....

Yes 2 year old with just under 14k miles. But looking at the used prices on the dealers website, I don’t get they’ll get much more for it. Maybe £2-3k

Ordered a new Golf R last week. Be without a car for a while but am working from home so don’t need a car that much at the moment. Happy to wait and save what I would have paid on monthlies. Then the new car will be effectively have a “free” deposit and the monthlies will be the same as my old car.

Man maths at its best on this one.

Ive never sold a car and got more than the deposit back that I put down on it once the finance was settled. Seemed the right time to sell before they start going down.

One other thing about Motorway is that they ask you about options so makes your car more desirable (if you have many) and probably will push the price up. You won’t get that with WBAC.

Sounds perfect, we all work the numbers to suit us.... I did something similar to justify the Audi being cheaper than the M5...

Look forward to seeing it when it arrives, the mk8 sounds like it drives well and looks seem very susceptible to colour and spec...its interesting that you had an M and a 63 but have now gone for two Golf Rs. Maybe that is that perfect size and performance for everyday life!

That’s impressive. It does wrangle with me that lots of places just ignore options etc. Is it a no obligation and free service ?

Good luck with new car, I keep pinching the mrs 7.5 TCR from time to time. I’d be thinking of an R if she didn’t have that…..

How long will the wait be for the new one for you ?

The TCR is a nice car the motor is very torquey, I'm surprised at the pace it offers but I guess 290hp and 1400kg means there isn't much mass to shift, its playground is 30-80mph where it feels as punchy as any car I've had.

It's great value for money, engine and brakes are strong it just lacks the handling precision/solidity of an M car but you can forgive it that at the price.

Could be quite a while and been told 16-20 weeks.

But some have been coming through a lot quicker than that.

It's down to the old head and heart thing..... heart says I could have kept the Golf R as I loved it. Brilliant all-rounder.
But head says take the big wodge of cash on offer at the moment and wait for the new one, saving the monthlies as I wait.

Head won on this occasion and as I mentioned, not using the car that much at the moment.

I'll share the wife's Fiesta ST-Line which is a great little fun car to drive.

I've got quite different reasons for selling both the M3 and C63s......which I wont bore you with here.
Of course these 2 are finished better than a VW and a lot faster ..... however, I find you have to be doing a fair whack to make them fun and exciting. Both seemed heavy cars compared to the R. And ultimately I found RWD isnt for me.

The turn-in on the R is awesome and it feels so much more agile than those two at lower speeds and around the tight twisties. Its not as fast but you dont need to be going fast to put a smile on your face. TBH 70mph and below there wouldnt be anything in it between these 3 its over 70mph where the RWD cars come into their own and take off. But not overly relevant as that's heading towards licence losing mph.

All great cars in different ways and there is no right or wrong answer.

Anyway the car I have gone for is:

Golf R Mk 8
Lapiz Blue (not much choice of colours on the R with the others only white and black!)
Performance Pack (larger rear spoiler, 19's, couple of extra driving modes)
DCC (adaptive suspension)
Harmon Hardon sound system
Rear camera
Winter pack 2 (heated seats front and back and a few other things)

You get a few things standard such as adaptive cruise, keyless, folding mirrors, heated steering wheel, matrix LED adaptive headlights, high beam assist

Well the wife's ateca can't stop going up in value! wbac was 18100 in Dec, 16300 in April and now 18k again. Motorway has valued it back up to 18.5k .

Might have to start looking for a replacement if we are getting a fair chunk of deposit back.

Yes that’s a decent wait but will be worth it, saving the monthlies is a good thing.
I’d be tempted to do same. I’m still debating, but I guess my mrs will be back in office soon so need two cars.

Nice list of stuff you get as standard in the new Mk 8

In some ways I prefer the more go kart handling of her TCR to my M3. I feel the size of the M3 more on some roads.
I’m impressed by her choice

Yes at round town buzzing about it's brilliant and more alert than the M however I find as the speed and challenge rises I do miss that precision that an M gives at b road (no one's looking speeds) but it's a really enjoyable car.

As an aside my dealer friend sent me a snap of a 69 plate TCR with 10k miles going through BCA today at £30,500, £3500 more than I paid for my 69 plate with 5000 miles on it 4 weeks ago.

The market is mad at the moment.

The new R looks great and has huge performance for the money, enjoy!

The 7 does feel very special. There are some pretty good lease deals too if you’re able to resist the options list...

Yes but I'd want options which stops me from doing it, the other thing I realised is that there is a secondary market being created by WBAC who feed BCA, they under price their bids they bid me 27.5k the week they sold a TCR with double the mileage for 3k more..to the trade, they are trading at retail margins and inflating the market.

I would urge anyone who wants to sell to cut them out an go direct to a dealer as they will bid more in the current climate, the spread WBAC/BCA have created allows that if you know it exists.

I've booked an appointment as they have offered a decent price for my m3. WBAC isn't that different to what the dealer has offered.

Interested with Motorway though, might go take a look. I'd really like to get a decent price for the m3, it's a beautiful car, at least getting some decent money out if it will soften the blow.

I had £25.5k from Evans Halshaw £26.5 from Motorway and 27.5k from WBAC all in the same week, the week one went through BCA at £30k.

Quite the spread.

I'm currently at 39,500 from WBAC, £41,300 from Evans Halshaw (estimated), motorway £41,000 (estimated). I've got a couple of people looking for a private sale, though I'm a bit nervous going with a private sale.

Try https://www.wizzle.co.uk

I've heard people claiming they got more than Motorway with them.

I tried Wizzle when I was getting rid of the TTS.

BMW was offering circa £31.5k for trade in
Best offer on Wizzle was £34k but the buyer was a one man band so decided not to sell to him. Trade groups were offering £33 to £33.5k

WBAC offered just short of £35k and knocked £104 off at inspection for a couple of chips on the front bumper.

Suppose it all depends on the offer on the day. I wouldn't hesitate using WBAC again. Whole process was slick and paying off the finance to VWFS was quick (About 3 days - I didn't pay for faster service)

So, evans halllshaw have upped there offer. Now at £42k, that's with the car due a brake fluid change, 2 rear tyres and a small wheel scuff. BMW offered 38.5k so it's quite a delta. I can't see me getting much if any more for the car privately. So looks like she's leaving me tomorrow 😭😭😭😭
