Steering rack ZF issue
Hello guys,
I have some worries, while driving, currently not very often, but I feel some discomfort while hit some small bumps and intermittently experience vibration to the wheel. I saw a few threads here for repair kit, got one 32106891974, but it seems I also got the big D :mad 0260: my parts are a little bit different, so I assume that kit will not work for me. My cap it looks the same as the old one in the picture. After some research it seems I have ZF steering rack, and that kit is only for ThyssenKrupp Steering. My question is do you know more about ZF rack is there similar repair kits for it? |

I think that you are looking for 32106891974 if your steering rack is ThyssenKrupp, but if you have the same as mine ZF it is not compatible. Recycling if possible or a new one |

Make sure it's the rack. I had normal symptoms indicating I needed the Thrust Piece AFS repair kit, especially with my somewhat high mileage of 175K. Was preparing to order the repair kit right after new tires were installed and the alignment done. Lo and behold, when the tech was preparing to do the alignment, he observed I had some play in the left tie rod. Brought me out to the floor to show. Sure enough, it was worn. Replaced both and TA DA! Symptoms gone. Yours may well need replacing, just don't jump to that conclusion without doing your due diligence troubleshooting

Hi All,
I also own a ZF, and lately, the rattling from the front right wheel has significantly worsened. I've searched through numerous forums and posts but haven't found a solution for resolving this issue without having to replace the entire rack. I'm contemplating purchasing a second-hand ZF rack. Would it be feasible, in anyone's opinion, to simply substitute the screw cap and inner parts, thereby essentially assembling my own repair kit similar to the one available for the ThyssenKrupp rack? Thanks James |

I suspect the problem arose because my mechanic overtightened it initially. After loosening it slightly, the knocking returned, so he tightened it again until the knocking stopped. Now, I'm faced with a dilemma: should I have it loosened a bit more, risking the return of the knocking, or should I just accept it as it is?

There is, but you won't be able to do it without $2000+ in special tools

Lots of questions on this. Do you have any link to this procedure (whether it be forum post or YouTube video)? How would the steering rack know how tight the nut is?
