2016 340I

Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum and bought my 2016 340i last month. So, as seen in the pic attached happened while parking since I did not expect the curb to be tall enough to touch the body. Any thoughts on how to avoid such situations? It's kind of bothering me Maybe this could have been avoided if the front parking sensors turn on automatically?

Thank you

Does your vehicle have M Sport package with M Sport bumper and Surround View?

Surround View helps a lot when visually measuring distance from the curbs of all kind.

Unfortunately, there isn't a fool proof method to avoid parking curbs. I learned to park one foot away from anything, even with Surround View.

Yes, it has M sport package with M sport bumper. But it does not have the surround view. I am not sure if I can turn on front proximity sensors everytime I park (Is it possible?)

On my 2014, I can just hit the button to the left of the shifter to activate the parking sensors. Once they are active, pressing down on the iDrive knob activates the rear camera.

The sensors are helpful in front, but they will miss the curb if you come up to it very quickly while arming the sensors. I mainly just look for the tips of the lines on the space in the rear view, then I know I can stop.

When your speed is down to a crawl you can activate them with the button. You also can stop, put the car in reverse to actuate them, then go forward again. They'll stay on until the car reaches 6 MPH or so.

Never park over a curb or parking blocks. Always assume it will damage your bumper unless it is obviously very low. Our cars are far shorter than a lot of SUVs and sedans these days. There's no reason to park them over anything that might catch.
