Guys Im in the middle of placing my order on the F30 with the M sports package and he is giving me the option of all season tires or performance summer tires. Both are run flat but wanted to know which one is best as far as mileage, ride, etc??????

Summer tires are going to give you a harder ride with a shorter tread life compared to all season tires. However, performance tires are going to give you better performance handling. Given your location, you can get by with performance tires year-round. So you need to decide if the softer, more isolated ride with all season tires is what you want. Does the dealer have a demo of each you can drive?

thanks but I'm in Afghanistan in the military and ordering without being able to see a real car other than in the pics. I live in Louisiana so don't really need ice/snow tires. How many miles are we expecting to get out of each types?

Terribly difficult question to answer. Extreme perf. tires (which neither of these are) will get you 12-20k mlies.

I wouldn't expect too much more life out of the all seasons vs the summer tires. really it depends on how you drive and maintain the tires (pressures primarily). but if you want a shot in the dark I'd say both should go 30-50k.

Thank you for your service, and be careful over there.

I've decided That they won't be Blue in the US. The reason for this is The picture thread has a US spec car....no blue brakes.

Ya, i just wish they would come out and f*ckin tell us. I hate that they bring it up at all the auto shows around the world, that it will either be standard OR an option. Yet in the US, we see neither at the moment. WTF??? And its not just cause i care about the color, though they look cool ya, but i like how theyre fixed piston all around and bigger discs. Makes u feel like ur actually gettin somethin for that $$$

this sucks ... they prolly just figure "us rich americans" will pony up for M performance brakes.

Completely agree. I suspect that is exactly the plan from BMW NA....to that I say "blow me" to them.

But if you do go back, you'll note grey metal calipers on the M sport w/ leather interior and no fog lights (as would be equipped in the US). I was sad when I finally noticed. I really hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

oh right on. I'm kinda sad that I'm not the only one who noticed. Was hoping maybe my computer was broken not showing the blue brakes on US cars just out of spite

The brakes are an option for ROW, and we're still unclear about their availability in the US. The bmw.co.uk M Sport and F31 configurator is up, if you'd like to experiment with setup options, albeit different than what the US will offer.

well I placed an order in the US...and it wasn't an option. There's no mention of it being standard....and...if you'll notice the pics of the BMW show car (estoril blue F 30 thread) look for the one w/o foglights, you'll notice grey metal brake calipers....Blue isn't going to be avail in the US 99% certain of it.

Well they almost certainly won't be standard, but I do suspect that they'll be optional. For a 335i, it's not a huge difference, but since I want an F31 and the stock US 328i brakes are pretty pathetic, if the better brakes aren't available, I'll probably just wait until they come to their senses.

Im working in trauma at the NATO Role 3 combat hospital in Kandahar, Afghanistan (birthplace of the Taliban) and its the worse of the worse. I can say war is a terrible thing. We take care of all the our American combat soldiers and also the coalition forces. Ive patched up quite a few Brits over the last few weeks. If any of you guys would like to help out or have wives that like to bake homemade brownies or cookies we sure would appreciate some. Many of these guys have no one at home and it would mean a lot to them. Just send to the address below.

Is there still a ban on alcohol for soldiers deployed to Iraq & Afghanastan? I heard a favorite item to receive in a care package was a bottle of good vodka poured into an empty mouthwash bottle?

Does anybody know if there is/will be a sunroof-delete option for the '13 335i M-Sport? I know the sunroof is STD on the 335i for '13. Maybe it could be deleted through the "individual" program?

You have the ride thing backwards, summer tires are softer. That's how they grip the road better and is why they also have a better ride. It's also why their soft rubber has a hard time coping with freezing temperatures. All season tires have harder rubber that doesn't change its consistency as much in very cold temperatures, the only benefit of all season tires is their ability to work in the extreme cold. Summer tires are actually better in the rain than all seasons which, I think, makes the naming a little confusing.

Summer performance tires may have harder sidewalls which will hurt the ride quality, but this is a separate issue from the rubber hardness.
