Turbo Warning Code
I have a bit of a strange problem with my '15 n55 turbo. I recently had the fuel injectors replaced and after being replaced, I have been getting an error code (P0299 "Drivetrain malfunction") when using the top 10% of my power range. After, it puts the car into limp mode until the car is turned off.
I brought my vehicle to both a German-specialist shop and the BMW dealer. Both thought it was a software issue but after the update, I am still having the issue. Supposedly, the turbo is just releasing pressure at a certain point and the ECU freaks notices the dropoff in pressure, freaks out, and throws the error code. After checking everything, the only solution they can come up with to solve it is to replace the turbo which they quoted me at $8k (definitely wouldn't go through dealer). If I have to replace my turbo, it gives me an oppurtunity to put a big turbo in and increase power. However, if there is a cheaper solution or anyone has recommendations, I will gladly accept if it means saving $4k/$5k. The tech recommended replacing the wastegate--he didn't think it would solve the problem because it is not throwing an error...however, neither is the turbo and a wastegate replacement is a much cheaper option. Has anyone experienced anything like this or have any advice for cheaper solutions? As much as I would love to throw a big turbo in, I am skeptical that I will still have the issue and be out $5k. |

Really depends on the price because if I need to replace my turbo, I might as well upgrade. Additionally, I don't know when I am going to address this. I am still able to drive my car with 90% of its power, giving me time to consider all options
