That's quite a compliment looking at your signature.

What makes it so special and better than say the M3 convertible...?

Never had a vert. Had the E92 M3

But. The 435d is about a little bit of everything and a hell of a lump of torque.

Comfort
Ride quality
Refinement
Economy
Grunt
Looks

It really is the best all-rounder I've owned. The one and only weak link is the lack of a decent exhaust note.

I can attest time this, with an m performance pack it's almost perfect, for more enthusiasts an aftermarket exhaust would help the sound element.

your sig says E93 M3 DCT - thought the 93 was a vert??

Thanks for feedback - I am trying to work out what convertible to buy in new year. It will be a weekend car and doubt it will do 6k miles a year - but I dont drive fast any more and I did wonder whether a 435d might be the best compromise (I quite fancy xdrive) as an option to C43 4Matic...

Go for something more exciting/less practical if it's a weekend car.

If you must have 4WD - used TTS?

Only other negative I'd add to a x35 is the hide height is awful and handling is crap on the pre-LCI.

Have you got ACS springs? How do you find the handling?

The have ACS springs. The 4 series was never LCi and always had the right set-up. which the LCi 3 series eventually received. The ACS springs on the 4 series was never the revelation it is on pre LCi 3 series model. It is an improvement though.

I'm rapidly coming to 13k in year one. which is unheard of for me. as it's a second car. I can't stop driving the thing.

I have a daughter who has a baby - would be nice to use the weekend car when we went out together so 4 seats was a preference. If I go 2 seater it will be hard to look past the Boxster..

AWD not a necessity but I would prefer something that wasnt going to chuck me through a hedge backwards if I get it wrong....

If you have to manage a baby seat too often I would think hard about the 4 series Coupe. It could do someones back in. 4 GC maybe.

It wont be often - and baby will be in front, my daughter can cram in back!

I have a Volvo estate for mundane duties.....

That is one of the issues - I want a convertible (never had one) but I dont want it to be a girly one. That takes out alot of good cars.

C43 I think just about passes, its an AMG. Boxster does too I think. not much else. I do like the TTS but not sure that does! The 4401 does as its hard top most of time. M240i???
