Hey guys I'm new here to the forum, and looking for some advice on some things I can do to my 435i. I recently just got the Dinan axle back, it sounds so much better then stock, but I personally think it's still too quiet. My buddy said to either go with a mid pipe or a down pipe to make it louder. So I wanted to ask what do you guys here suggest, mid pipe? Down pipe? And what the best bang for your buck is. I have a lot of projects for this car I want to do but this is the first thing I want to get some answers for.

Thanks!

Both will make the car louder. Downpipe will make it louder and give you more HP and TQ as well checking all of the boxes at once. Will also pave the way for future mods and help the turbo work more efficiently. My vote is for downpipe!

Is it fine to put down pipe without tune?

I wouldn't mess with catalytic converter unless your state doesn't do emissions and you can pass inspection. It's a bit of a headache to deal with. It'll be easier with a downpipe and will be plenty loud, but unless you want to deal with emissions and inspection failures, I'd stay clear of downpipes.

If you wanted to try something less drastic than a downpipe, you could remove the resonator. That's reversible if needed and a lot cheaper than a downpipe.

Personally I prefer the standard exhaust. It’s nice and quiet. I don’t piss off the neighbors when I drive by. Also it doesn’t effect the old Vietnam veteran with the Bmw convertible who is already hard of hearing.

Hey guys thanks for the advice! Sounds like I should go with a catted down pipe instead of a mid pipe. I reached out to AWE about their mid pipe so I will disregard that. Any suggestions for a down pipe that won't break the bank? Opinions on the VRSF catted one?

the VRSF catted pipe will get you the sound you want without the fuel smell.

My personal opinion is the best combo is a catless downpipe (I don't really notice huge differences in sound depending on brand for the N55), mixed with the factory M Performance muffler, with factory resonator still in place. It sounds super tasteful, can get pretty loud, but not enough to piss off the neighbors and be obnoxious.

I have an M-Performance exhaust on mine (Part #: 18302354340) and it's pretty loud. I believe there are two versions of it, the US and the EURO, and reading somewhere on the forums, one is louder than the other. When I did my research I found that the Part Number I listed above was the louder one. I noticed it takes a couple of months till it gets worn and starts sounding really loud. But I definitely love the sound of the N55 through it. Wouldn't change it!
