The custom firmware was running really smoothly prior to attempting to flash the MCU. Do I understand correctly that I must force flash the MCU to some earlier release? Or do I force flash to an earlier software version and then do incremental updates of both? Is there a way to force flash an MCU even? As stated before the MMI doesn't respond to any input at the moment. |

Well that didn't work. Tried a couple of previous versions on Andream software and also bimmertech MCU but it seems to completely ignore my pressing of the back button
Any other ways of forcing it to downgrade or reflash without utilising the back button? |

Has anyone bought from this seller? It’s $176 and seems to be the cheapest. I am planning to buy it for my second car

I’d ask them what version they’re selling with. Cheapest doesn’t mean best, comparatively speaking since they’re almost all the same units from China. IMHO |

Got in touch with Andream and they are suggesting the unit is bricked. I would appreciate any ideas before I have to designate this unit to landfill.

You can only use: Quote:
NOTE/TIP for the OEM camera: turn OFF "Reverse Track" which is looking for a reverse trigger signal to automatically switch back to the OEM camera (on iDrive). |

How are you trying to force flash? Are you physically disconnecting the power cable from the box?

The USB stick contained either ISOBOOT.bin or upgrade_mmi.bin or upgrade.bin or all of them. I tried 3 different versions of bimmertech's MCU files as well as the custom MCU |

Android Auto DPI/resolution with 8.8" screen
Hi,
I just installed the B-version of the Andream box onto my F36 (entrynav with upgraded 8.8" screen). Model: EW-BMCP-NBT02B FW: B_V1.0.4-2 Question: - Has anyone tried changing the DPI and/or resolution of the interface? I feel the elements could be slightly larger for improved legibility. I was looking into the androidauto_config.xml in the GEMINI_PACK.BIN-file, and found the following: Code:
<DisplayWindow><!-- Head Unit side configuration--> <X_Coordinate value="0"/> <Y_Coordinate value="0"/> <DisplayWidth value="1280"/> <DisplayHeight value="480"/> </DisplayWindow> <Display><!-- Phone side configuration--> <DisplayWidth value="232"/><!-- Physical width--> <DisplayHeight value="87"/><!-- Physical height--> <Density value="200"/> <RealDensity value="153"/> <ViewingDistance value="400"/> <Resolution480P value="false"><!-- fps: 30 or 60--> <fps value="30"/> </Resolution480P> <Resolution720P value="true"> <fps value="30"/> </Resolution720P> </Display> <Resolution480P value="false"> as well as <Resolution720P value="true"> This seems to tell the system, that although the resolution is 1280x480 (as defined earlier), it should use a 720p resolution. - Anyone here who has looked into this, or tried changing between 480p and 720p? or is it the "density" setting that controls the scale/DPI? - Does this have anything to do with the "AA Widescreen fix"? Thanks! EDIT: - looked back to page 135 of this thread, where Firefly1337 and others discussed these settings in depth. Any update or new conclusions on this? Did you ever get to test the other "density" settings, and did they have an effect? - Comparing the picture of the screen that Firefly shared when releasing his custom firmware 1.0 (here), it seems like the scaling on my unit is slightly off (smaller icons, largers gaps) in comparison. Maybe someone could check what values that FW has for the Display, Density and Resolution settings? Last edited by ckarv; 10-13-2020 at 07:18 AM.. |

It's a minor difference, but you can see it quite well in the left icon bar, where the gaps are much larger (and icons smaller) in the latter example, so would be interesting to understand what the different settings are and how they affect the output. EDIT: - Seems 200 DPI / Density is the preferred setting for both the custom FW that Firefly has been building. He was testing 210 density at some point, but the text clarity seemed to have suffered some. - Density is also set as "200" for the official 1.0.4-2 firmware for the Andream B-version. It would be good to understand what went wrong with the MCU upgrade to have killed all external inputs and outputs like that as it puts me off upgrading understandably |

Looks like this might be an option for me, but curious about the updates/update logs I see here. If I had one of these units installed am I going to have to constantly update the software/firmware? How often is an update required?
If phone moves to Android 11 will unit with Android 10 still operate effectively? Same Q as it pertains to Airplay as we have multiple devices. Also, anyone have a recommendation in NYC for install? I'm not game to f' up my dash myself lol. Thanks! R |

I just skimmed through about 100 pages of the 200+page thread and can't seem to find any updated/current consensus.
As of now, October of 2020, is there any consensus from the community about which MMI product can be reliably purchased and some firmware installed with all features properly working? I see a lot of info about "B" revisions not being able to be flashed, and most shipping hardware are "B" revisions. Is the Bimmer Tech kit at 3x the price the only currently reliable method if someone wants to simply place an order, install it, flash update, and then just use it? Or is there another kit that does actually work 100%? Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide clarity! |

Hello,
Sorry if it was answered already, but does HUD show turn by turn navigation while using Waze? Last edited by RokasLTU; 10-13-2020 at 02:42 PM.. |

Not following the OEM vs mmi BT issue. You mean, you can't make calls via the BMW BT (voice button), but can via say 'OK Google' or something else? |

Yes in my case I can say OK google by pressing the steering wheel button and google respond to my command .. and currently my phone calls run thru the mmi unit ..not oem bluetooth... (Unless I'm doing something wrong ) I was going to update the software so I can run calls thru oem but going to wait to the weekend to do the update

However I have read that there is a remaining unresolved issue if you have the OEM camera. But I don't remember the specifics of the issue. |
