Question Installed JB+, upgrade to JB4

I've had my 2013 335i xDrive for about 2 months now. It is my first BMW and so far has been great, but could always be a bit faster. Other than cosmetic, the JB+ is the only mod I have done and it is definitely quicker. Reading through the forums I see a lot about Dinan vs BMS. Obviously I went with Burger and mainly because the ability to upgrade to the JB4 and cost difference. It seems like a lot of people like to tweak the JB4, but if I upgraded to it I would rather keep it as is. How is the JB4 with the default tuning? Is it reliable and a worthwhile upgrade from the JB+? I have about 20 months warranty left on my CPO and the JB+ is much easier to remove if necessary. I don't know how mod friendly my dealer is yet and don't want to break something that is going to cost me an arm and a leg to fix. The only other mod I was thinking of doing in the near future would be an intake. Not really looking to get too crazy.

Go with the JB4 and if your budget permits, get the phone app to go along with it.

If you don't plan on any other mods (downpipe, e85, etc) then stick with what you have.

Any particular reason? JB+ claims 35 HP and JB4 claims 60 HP on stock. I know the JB+ is 4 psi. I would be curious as to how much psi the JB4 adds.

There's so much options nowadays, same price or similar as what a jb4 would cost you.

The JB4 is not as easy as people make it seem to be either; but it will teach you a lot about your car. Like smeone already said if you not planning to upgrade just stick with what you have.

If you want to get the most out of your car, Flash Tune

If no other mods you'd be using JB4 on map 1. That's very similar to the JB+/1.

Map 2/5/6 are for big power but require supporting mods

That is what I was wondering, if it is easy to use. With all the posts and JB4 bible, I figured it would be a lot more than plug and play.

No need to play with Jb4 settings, get it and keep on map 1

But what are the gains between the JB+ and JB4 map 1?

Probably not much in power difference but the jb4 will control more parameters (smoother) via can-bus through the obdii, boost control by RPM, guage hijacking, logging, code deleting, Bluetooth phone, and future upgrades(which will happen) it becomes an addiction. Caution: once you go e85, dP, on map 5 there's no going back

Not much E85 by me, so I don't have to worry about that.

+1

Power difference is not much but delivery is a lot better from the JB4 + all the extra features

I guess it doesn't really matter anyway. I had read on the forum that there was a trade in policy from the JB+ to the JB4, but that doesn't seem to be the case. At least not if you purchase directly from BMS...

But you can easily sell the jb+ on the boards and get most of your money back.

Another good thing about BMS products is that resale value is really good since BMS never do any discount

Only time there was a trade in was on the E series with the JB3 to JB4.

Best bet is to sell private. Plenty of guys are looking for a deal.

I think I am very similar to you. I was considering the JB+ VS JB4, and I opted out for JB4 because of more power gains. I dont mess with the settings at all, I just run map 2 with a DP, CP, FMIC. I believe it gives +6PSI of boost, and it is plenty to keep me smiling on the road. It completely transformed the car with the extra boost. I felt like I was driving a brand new vehicle.

Very cool. The boost is what I am most curious about. I know I am getting 4 psi extra now. If JB4 map one was say 6 psi, then I would definitely do it.

Anyone have any issues with can flap not operating? Stays in the OEM mode and does not change states when toggling modes.

Sent a message to Terry and the response was:

"It does what it does so if its not opening the valve then its just no compatible with the vehicle".

2012 F30 335i

Anyone have similar issues?

I think JB4 Map 1 is +60WHP Compared to your +35Whp with JB+.

Adding a DP for the additional 20 HP really transforms the car.
