First oil change on my 328d

Just thought i'd share my first oil change, it was a breeze honestly, very simple. I've done hundreds of Japanese cars and only one German car in the past (Porsche 944), but have done lots of cartridge filter vehicles as well.

First time using ramps and wow I can't believe I've been missing out on these, all my previous cars have been sports cars, or lowered, so I never bothered but now I can't go back to using a jack and stands unless I have too.

Products used:
Pennzoil 5w-30 Euro L (LL-04)
Mahle filter

Oil drain & oil filter housing torqued to 20 ft/lbs

Nice work! Makes me miss having a nice garage on my own. Still do all my own maintenance but god is it a PITA doing things outside or driving the hour and a half trip to the DIY garage that lets you rent lifts.

I've heard of those diy garages i think that's a really cool idea, but yeah at an hour and a half that's too far imo

Those ramps are great. I bought 4. If I need the whole car lifted, I jack up the rear and slide them under the wheels. I live in earthquake country, so this makes it much safer in case your under the car when one hits.

I was thinking of that but there are limitations with ramps, as in you can't do tire rotations, brake jobs etc. you're limited to just fluid changes/fuel filter I believe and that's about it.

Very true, and I do have stands for those times, though I need to invest in the ones with the “table tops” that can take a jack pad.

I can’t get myself to use those for some reason. I like to let the oil drip for a good while.

I just did my first Mityvac oil change yesterday. I actually enjoyed it, it emptied out exactly as much oil as I put in the change prior (maybe minus .1 liter) and it was very quick and easy. However, it was not as clean as I anticipated since I couldn't get the damn hoses to stop dripping once I completed the change.

The draining isn’t even the dirty or hard part for me. I lay down cardboard so there’s no worries, it’s the filter that can make a mess if you don’t put paper towels next to it. But yeah I’ve used vacuum pumps before and the most annoying part is the drips/ oil in the hose. Also if you accidentally sling the hose it flies everywhere.
