So tell them to do it. Costly repairs are a risk you sign up for if you want to drive newer expensive cars. Reman racks should be avail soon.
...Though I have a 0% chance believing you can't find and adapt a used rack out of UK or other rhd spec area for a fraction of that. Key would be knowing the collision it came from.
I am confident that will eventually be done. However this will hopefully serve as a path for those who find themselves going down this pathway in the future.

I would also note the steering rack that has been on the car since it came out of the factory is not even listed among the 75+ variations associated with the F30 in realoem.com

In fact the sequence of the steering racks have no designation for any BMW models in realoem.

Obviously this deepens the mystery even more....and makes a replacement more questionable and not as straight forward as you suggest for a part that has to go air freight half way across the globe.

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partxref?q=32106859302 or even the most recent in this sequence https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partxref?q=32106868887 (see below)

You need to order the latest version. they are all interchangeable. but the latest will have the latest yoke design. visually nothing has changed on these racks since circa 2010 when production started for prototypes were first made

Yes, but note this sequence is not even listed as compatible with a F30....

The problem is no place lists the latest number as even valid.

Should I order this belt for a "just in case" situation?

Please provide a link to where I can order a spare.

Welcome to the wonderful world of owning a BMW. There is no replacement for the $10 belt, you need to spend $3000 on a new rack instead. BMW cars are engineered to bring the most $$$ revenue to BMW, and it is most frustrating.

With you on this, got my metal toe capped boots ready. Also why are some of the long quoted replies quoted twice?

I did a quick check for the belt and the steering rack with these numbers. None appear to be compatible with a F30 w/VSS- unfortunately, but its a starting point.

Does IK6SPEED have the dimensions of the failed belt?
Just sent email to supplier to see if HEE4070ERM is compatible with S2VLA option and if they offer a belt that does fit.

Looks like many cars use these belts....

Click on the HEE4182RM belt image, rotate the image and you can see the Gates logo.
