liquid in amplifier

Hi, hope someone can help. I had a bottle of chemical toilet fluid that leaked in the boot and dripped onto the amplifier (basic audio only 2x2+2 subs). I now have no audio.

I have disassembled the amp, lightly washed the circuit board and thoroughly dried it out but still no audio. I'm hoping that some safety has cut out rather than component damage. Is there anyway to verify this or to reboot the system?

Thanks

I had mine replaced a few years ago under warranty due to water damage.

Never knew how the water got there in the first place but bmw said the unit had to be replaced.

You've most likely blown the amp. Chemicals like that are conductive - short circuit is the usual result

Thanks for the replies. That's what I feared. An expensive error!

I'm confused, the base audio system doesn't have an amp in the boot AFAIK?

Only the Hifi option and the HK option have the amps - the base is powered from the HU

Its a small unit (Harman Becker HS B224) approx 3x4 inches that sits vertically at the back of the caddy. I think its just for the 2 subs whereas the HiFi unit has a separate larger amp and heatsink. I would be happy if I do actually have the HiFi option because that will open up a few other options when it comes to replacing the unit!

If you have tweeters in the doors then you have HIFI.

Same, I had a leak from the boot seal and the amp blew, but not before it took out a door speaker with the feedback it produced!

Crikey, that's an unfortunate and likely costly accident. Maybe get a bootliner as I've always done after a paint pot decided to leak and self-decorate the boot interior of an earlier non-beemer.

Hope you manage to sort it economically.

Cheers

Boot liner sounds like a great idea! I've managed to clean it up mostly by removing the all the interior boot panels and giving them a good hosing down. Still has a bit of a smell about them but hoping that will fade in time.

I've seen a few amps on ebay so will pick up second hand. I didn't realise it would need coding in though. I will have to look up how to do that.

Also worth following up that the unit is the basic as no tweeters.

Thanks again all.
