DWS06 vs Pilot Sport A/S 3+

Looking at a new set of tires now and cant decide between the two. I've had Continental DWS (the former version) in the past and liked everything about them except the flat spotting i experienced when the car was parked. I am also considering the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ due to tire rack having them on closeout pricing currently (since the Pilot Sport All Season 4 is now out) They will be going on a set of staggered Bimmerworld TA5R wheels.

18x8.5 - 225/45-18 Fronts
18x9 - 255/40-18 Rears

Has the flat spotting issue lessened or decreased with the new DWS06 model? Thats mainly the only thing holding me back from buying them over another brand.

Any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated.

One thing to consider when buying a tire being discontinued:

If you have a blow-out or non repairable pucture, there is a risk of a repacement not being available and you'll either have to run a mis-matched set of tires or buy an entire new set.

I ran the DWS 06 on a different vehicle an don't recall ever having a flat spot problem despite the car sitting at the airport for several days to a week at a time.

I just picked up a set of 4 Pilot Sport A/S3+ for my 14 335i Xdrive. Got them on sale from tire rack for 556 USD shipped to my house. I've been running the A/S3+ for about 2 years and have no complaints. My current set has about 5k miles left of use so I will keep 2 tires as a spare set until the new set is worn down. At that point, I will most likely move to the A/S 4.

I've run both on multiple cars, meaning I have had multiple BMWs that I have done DWS06 then switched to AS3+. I like the AS3+ they tend to wear better and are a little more confident in the wet. That said if snow is a concern the DWS06 had the edge there.

I had the dws06 on my first bmw as an all year tire. Was decent. Now that i run a dedicated snow setup I switched to the PS 3+ and love it

The common feedback on the DWS is that they have a little bit slower turn in and feel a little less sporty as a result.

I bought the MPS AS3 last year and have run them in summer, rain, ice and snow and they have been fantastic. Every I hoped they would be. If mine were lower in tread right now I would have snapped up one of those sets on clearance and never looked back.

I'm looking at swapping from some Continental ContiProContact SSRs to the Michelin Pilot Sport 3+ A/S due to the special at Tire Rack.

This was my first time having run flats. Since I'm going to non-run flats, I plan on buying a mobility kit (probably the Airman ResQ Pro+ from Amazon), but with the Michelins being so discounted, I'm also thinking about buying a 5th as a spare just in case. With them being discontinued, is there any value in that? Just thinking about the situation where one tire is a complete loss. Wouldn't help if two blow, obviously.

Thoughts?

I considered this as well as I just purchased a full set of AS/3’s from Tire Rack. However, if you have to use the replacement tire after 20k miles, you may experience issues as it’s always recommended at minimum to replace tires in pairs. Based on this logic, you may want to consider purchasing 2 extra...

This has pretty much swayed me to just go with the DWS, although I havent placed my order just yet. I dont take turns like a madman and would appreciate the comfier ride and better winter weather performance since I drive my 340 daily.

I don't think you'll be disappointment with the DSW 06's road manners. I ran them on a different car, but found they handled and cornered well on hard back-road runs.

They do very well in the rain and snow. Not like a winter tire will, but very good for an A/S tire.

I had the Conti DWS on three of my cars... E90 335i, MK7 Golf and GD WRX. The first two cars had the "06 w/ Sport+ Technology" ones, which seemed to have fixed some of the soft sidewall complaints from the 1st gen. Never had any issue with 'flat spots'... very good overall tires when it came to comfort, noise level and all-weather driving.

I currently have the PS A/S 3+ on my RWD 550i and they definitely have more 'feel' and steering response than the Contis. They break away nicely when pushed hard but otherwise no drama.

I recently got new rubber for my F34 335i... Vredestein Quatrac Pro. You really should take a look at them if you want one of the most comfortable, quiet and confidence inspiring all-seasons tires out there. These are made in the Netherlands and one of the very few non-winters with the "3 Peak Mountain Snowflake" stamp. I had these once before on the E90 and was super impressed. May not be track worthy, but for every day & spirited driving... they're really good!

I ended up going with the dws06 and the ride on 18s is so much nicer than the 19" oems with runflats i had.

I am 2 weeks in on a new set of A/S 3+. I'll be one of the few to say that I'm not totally thrilled with them.

Im on stock staggered 18s. My previous 4 years were on Sumitomo Max Summer tires. I was quite happy with the ride and handling but wanted AS tires to handle early/late season snow before I change to winters.

The review from Tirerack on the PS is spot on. Handling is exceptional while comfort takes a back seat. These things are firm! I consider myself a spirited driver and if given an open on/off ramp, I will try and sling myslef around like a hoola hoop. These don't disappoint yet the cheap Summer rubber I had previously didnt feel too far behind. Every nook and cranny in the road is transferred to the cabin.

I imagine it's a ride that I will get used to eventually but at this point, not sure I would buy again.

Of note, I did replace the stock shocks to B4s at the same time which "may" add 10% stiffer suspension at most from what I read. So most of the ride feel I believe are from the new tires.
