For me, the MPSS were awful. Just not enough grip. The 666M wheels are quite marmite. I think they're a great looking wheel. But they're so heavy, and an utter PITA to clean. Prepare for grazed knuckles, lol. Bigger exhaust tips are a nice touch. If you go down that route, buy from AliExpress, as factory MPE tips don't fit. But if you want a full MPE, you can pick up used ones for well under £2k. Sound-wise, they're excellent. Yes, they're expensive. But you can easily move an MPE on if/when the time comes, and you'll lose very little on it. The same can be said of most genuine M Performance parts tbh, especially carbon pieces. Then it's just personal taste with other bits. I like carbon fibre, so have lots, inside & out. But tbf, quite a bit of mine's no longer stock. The LCI radio/climate surround is nice, as its backlit round the outside. You should join Cutters. Very active, lots of sound advice, good for sale section & plenty of people that will assist in spending your money! Lol.

clearly i'm in the minority then, when i first went on track with my 440i last year it was an evo day and they had a range of M cars to try, i had 2 laps in an M4C. I was fully expecting to jump out of it and want to trade in my 440i the following week, emptying my bank account in the process.
2 aspects stuck out for me - the amazing DCT, and it definitely had a much more connected and progressive rear on oversteer, probably due to the diff and tyres. the rest of the car was pretty underwhelming and well below my expectation, it wasn't the raw stiff ultra precise track weapon i thought it might be. i mean...there's no comparison in terms of price, if you take a 440i and an M4C of the same age (2years) .......it's about £15k difference lol, £40k vs £25k.....then extended warranty costs 3x as much each year. £400 vs £1200 odd they aren't comparable at all. If you can afford it and it makes you happy...do what you want! I'd deffo have got an M4C if i could afford it, its obviously a far more special car. i would absolutely love to do a track day with some M4C owners on here, purely in the name of science to see if i can keep up after spending £5k on mods and remaps. Now that would be an interesting comparison. Last edited by gippy; 10-19-2020 at 06:53 PM.. |

As for the upgrades, it depends what your priorities are. For me if I could only chose between all carbon or MPE I would go MPE without a doubt as it really transforms the car and puts a smile on your face. The other option some have gone with is the PCW mod (search) as that is a low cost adaption to the current exhaust which gives good results - but if you want carbon tips anyway you may as well go the BMW approved route and slap on an MPE - there is usually one up for sale and new the target is £3k. Make sure you get the revised one which has bracing between box and pipes as without this they seem guaranteed to fail - leaving you to find someone who can weld titanium. You will get V1 much cheaper so it is a valid option but get someone to weld some bracing on before it fails and it will be then fine. The other thing to think about is the ride height - the front arch gap really is too big. For me I wanted the carbon splitter but humps on a road I use mean I can't drop the car - so that is a trade off to consider - splitter or springs - many have both of course but it depends where you go - in the ideal world it needs a front lift. Enjoy the car - and treat it with respect as the roads get damp - there is a recent case study on Cutters of someone who didn't...

Lots of comments on how he shouldn't waste time and money rebuilding it, but I assume he is doing it as a project to gain views and subscribers to his channel. Good luck to him

Loved his optimism for the repair and comments like the worst thing is the carbon roof as it has some cracks in it. He'd surely be best to sell off parts (like seats/engine/gearbox) and start again as that is well and truly trashed... Unless he is planning on using it for stock car racing... You must be off your head to not insure your car on a track day - I expect he'll also have a bill for track damage too...

I've got an M4 and a 340i and wholeheartedly agree they are quite different cars in terms of character. If I was in London or really didn't get to use the capabilities all that often I'd stick with the 40i car as it's such a nice all rounder.
The M4 can do the boring stuff, but it always feels wasted stuck in traffic. When I was doing a long commute in mine I loved it and hated it at the same time! Some days it was an absolute pleasure, but often I was annoyed because on a 70 mile journey I wouldn't once get the chance to ring it out, or really tackle even a couple of bends at a decent lick. The 440i is always a pleasure, but it just can't really delight on a good road like the M4 does. I think if you drive the M4, ideally for an extended test drive you'll soon know whether it's a car that you want enough to justify the extra cost over a 440i or whatever. I've run mine for 2.5 years and 35k miles and the running costs have been little different to my previous BMWs in terms of servicing costs.

If you want something to compare against then I can tell you that I was did a 2:37 lap of Silverstone last month, and a 1:24 lap at Bedford on the SW circuit in August. NISFAN has just got himself an M2 and is pretty handy, and Watsey can pedal his 330d to a very respectable lap time too! Having said all that, I've just bought an Exige for my track days, so no idea when I'll next have the M4 on track!
