Need inputs of Wheel alignment Question

Hello,

My car is in for service at BMW dealer. They found left rear tire having thread depth 6/32 and all other tires have 7/32. They are pushing for wheel alignment. Do you guys think it's necessary? I have 328i xdrive with 12k miles.

Unless the wear on an individual tire is uneven I would be hesitant to pay for an alignment on such a new car, unless you know you've hit some gnarly bumps or detect some pulling on straight and flat road. Hard to tell for sure. How much do they want to align it?

If you don't notice anything really off, I would just get it done when you have new rubber put on as you'll likely have to do it then, anyway.

That's my thoughts exactly. There is no uneven wear and I did not notice any pulling either. They want 189.99 +13.30 tax & 25.80 Misc. fees = 229.09

If there is no uneven wear or pulling, no major curb rash on your wheels (curbs will affect alignment if you tap them a few times), don't do it. Those tires are still pretty fresh (70% life or more), so there should be no reason to get an alignment unless the car has an issue or you/your roads have done something to affect the alignment.

I had one done recently when I had my KW's installed at my Indy, I am almost sure it was $150+ Tax. They are a Porsche race shop and have a really nice alignment machine, so it's more than what you'd pay at a tire shop. I know Town Faire Tire will throw in an alignment for like 75 bucks when you purchase new tires. 230 is steep.

Thanks for the replys guys. I ended up not doing it. I will have to find an indie shop near southeast PA area who specializes in alignment.
